The fact (yes, fact) is that regardless of what he was, he is no longer a gangster. Infact, being involved in local crimes doesn't make you a gangster. Gangsters are involved in organised crime syndicates and things like that. I suggest you brush up on the knowledge kid.

You're taking the term "gangster" too literally. Gangsta can also refer to style and lifestyle. When somebody says "that car is gangsta!" do you honestly think they mean "That car is a member of a gang."? No.
Sure, Fifty lives in mansions and has a chauffer, but what big-time crime boss doesn't? Sure, the limelight may have made him appear to be soft, because when he's a guest on Leno or Letterman he's going to act accordingly. But you know that ese is doing a lot of shit under the table.
