Vorsprung durch Slapstick and Stand-up
Germans have a fantastic sense of humour, able to find lots to laugh about where no one else can. Here are two German jokes: An American and an Italian meet in a tavern. The American says: "Give me your hammer and I will build an aircraft carrier for you!" The Italian says: "Give me your daughter and I will make you the crew!" Why are old women even worse at parking than younger women? Because their hearing gets worse as they get older. Well, I thought they were quite funny
In fairness I will give an answer as to why.... (from a german...)

(No) Sense of HumourGermans don't lack a sense of humour, it's just different and expressed at different times. And it doesn't translate very well into English. Many Germans are said to like British humour, though.
To a foreigner, German humour can seem serious, which may have to do with the incredible bureaucracy, the many rules and regulations and the almost proverbial orderliness in this country. A number of Britons I asked found that the Germans take life too seriously and that they should "let go and have fun" a bit more. It may be this seriousness that prevents strangers in the street from smiling at each other, something the British always seem to miss when in Germany.
