Here is a very nicely done Adam Warlock Respect Thread I found and would like to share. I would also like to make it clear that I did NOT make this thread, but instead, the credit goes to Thorion, the thread’s true creator. All I am really doing here is copying and pasting. ERA 1: HIM

Him was created by some mad scientists (by Jack Kirby, acutally) to be the first of a new race without faults and without sin. He was too powerful and turned upon his creators. "He's got power without limit. We can't control him." Him creates a molecular wall and all blasts bounce back at the shooter. The energy he radiated was so great that no one could see him without dying. (Fantastic Four #67)

He also used his molecular powers to rise tendrils from the ground and entrap humans.

His energy build-up was so great, that he destroyed the cave. Even the Human Torch could absorb only a miniature fraction of the energy that was emitted.

He wanted to leave for space, so he harnessed some energy and the energy he used for leaving alone destroyed the whole beehive and the scientists.

Later, it was revealed that he didn't acutally destroy the beehive, he transported it to another dimension. (Hulk Annual #6)

Some years later, Kirby/Lee had him return in the pages of Thor. He wanted to have Sif as a mate and Thor wasn't too happy about it. First, he grabs Mjolnir and with a wave of his hand, sends Thor and Balder flying. (Thor #165-166)

Then he creates a solar vortex, grabs Sif and teleports away.

When Thor faces Him again, Him blasts Thor and onto the ground.

Then Him releases a potent force blasts that strikes the ground with the force of a hundred earthquakes and once again fells the asgardians.

Then, Him uses his matter control to cause some roots to attack Balder and restrain him. Thor goes into Warriors Madness and is ready to fight Him.

Thor in WM throws Mjolnir at Him, but it bounces off of his force field. Then it begins, Him (who is using his power throughout the battle to keep Sif in a force bubble and keep Balder trapped in the roots) vs Thor in WM.

He decides to drop all blasts and telekinesis and go against the insane Thunder God hand to hand due to honor, he comments how he is stronger than any living being and that his field can protect him from any harm and clashes with Thor as his equal.

Thor is startled by Him's strength and Him forces Thor down, then Thor punches Him away.

Then he starts pounding on Him and Him has to create an indestructible cocoon around himself to surive.

So that tells us that gemless Warlock as Him < Thor in Warriors Madness, but not by too much.

Below it is stated that Warlock is centuries old which would mean his birth in the HIVE was probably just another coccoon rebirth (he's had lots of them).

Overall: Warlock's personal power and strength were a their peak during his Him era, but he didn't have any skill or strategic thinking.

ERA 2: COUNTEREARTH...POWERDOWN...GAINS SOUL GEM WHICH MORE THAN MAKES UP FOR IT

Him was floating around in his cocoon after his battle with Thor, the High Evolutionary found him and communicated with him. Warlock stayed in the cocoon, so he could come out when he had regained all of the power he had as Him. Man-Beast and his New Men attacked Evolutionary's base and were defeating the HE. Warlock had to jump out of the cocoon and help the cocoon, thus becoming less powerful than he has as Him. He still defeats Man-Beast and his New Men with one attack. (Marvel Premiere #1)

Soul Gem's abilities on Counter-Earth:

Now, due to the fact that he had to come out of the cocoon earlier, he is less powerful, but the High Evolutionary grants him the name Warlock and the soul gem which more than makes up for the small power loss.

Here are the basics of the soul gem's power back then:
Recordes asked HE how could Warlock battle a being who is abel to master men's minds. The almost mystic soul gem is an object of great power that gives Warlock the ability to attune himself to matters molecular vibration and cause matter to break down, prevent change from occuring or continuing as when burning fire is extinguished by prevention of oxygen, it's greatest power is ot affect the genes of a being and it works as internal stamina to Warlock.

As you can see from the explanation, the gem could mostly only affect matter and genes and fire force blasts which means it was VERY different from the later incarnation, but still a powerful trinket.

When nothing else worked against a powered up Brute, Warlock used his soul gem to cause intense pain inside his mind, so that proves that although matter manipulation was the gem's main power, it could also release blasts that affect the body (energy/force) and those that affect the mind/soul.

Killed and soul gem powered up to the level of next era Warlock:

Warlock was killed and came back with his soul gem powered up and his own abilities the same. To prove this statement, he easily devolves Man-Beast and all of his New Men with one blast. (Incredible Hulk #176-178)

Man-Beast created illusions of Warlock destroying city blocks/buildings/jets, devolving bullets and parachutes, destroying all the capitals, taking nuclear bombs unscathed and basically almost killing the world. When touched his friends, he realized something was wrong. Then Man-Beast appeared and explained that it was all an illusion, BUT if he had killed his friends, these events WOULD have taken place.

Overall: his physical stats and personal power were lower than in his Him years due to leaving the cocoon too early, but he still retained all of his powers and demonstrated them from time to time. His soul gem, however, made up for any power less leaving the cocoon caused and gave him even newer abilities. While he was smarter and more skilled than during his Him years, he was still nothing special in those two areas. At the end of the Counter-Earth era, he died and came back with his own powers the same as they were on Counter-Earth, but his soul gem powered up which would explain the soul gem's new abilities and powers in the next era.

ERA 3: 70S WARLOCK...SOUL GEM POWERED UP

Starlin took over Warlock in Strange Tales #178 and made him into a different space hero. This era is the first one when he demonstrated his skill and strategic thinking. His physical abilities stayed the same as on Counter-Earth. He rarely if EVER used personal powers, but his soul gem was powered up (see last scan of Counter-Earth era Warlock) and developed many abilities, soul powers, it's own sentience and vampirism.

To make a long story short, the gem was revealed to be a sentient being feeding off the souls that Warlock absorbed. It had the power of soul control and was also stated to be a source of unlimited power since the energies the gem uses, are the energies from the souls in the soul world.

It was also explained how he was able to come back from the dead. His will and spirit is SO strong that even Death can't contain it. He had died a dozen times and aways came back for the same reason.

Overall, I'd like to mention that Warlock has a CLEAN record against telepathy, no one has been able to control him. In the Counter-Earth era, he was fooled by some of Man-Beast's illusions for a little while, but since the powerup of the gem and the strengthening of his own will, even illusions haven't fooled him, so it is safe to say that psionics are useless against Warlock.

Star-Thief tested Warlock by creating various opponents. Warlock demonstrated his speed, skill, strength and especially...intelligence in every one of those encounters, one of the tests, were souless demons that the gem could not affect, here's Warlock's physical strength.

Another test was against Star-Thief's stone giants who were physically much more powerful than Warlock. Warlock uses skill and speed to escape them and smashes them from behind.

All of the tests above were using his speed and skill to evade his opponent, then use intelligence to detect his weakness and use strength to defeat them. In this one, Warlock tries using his strength and actually smashes a giant shark away, but it doesn't even hurt it, so he resorts to intelligence...

As for everything else relating to intelligence, well.... when he absorbed a soul, he also absorbed his knowledge, for instance, he had Autolycus' navigational skills and Magus' dark knowledge and used them to find space warps.

It's most dreaded ability was to steal souls. Automatic win for Warlock. Can't be resisted. He did it many times to Magus' minions, but here's Warlock, with one attack, absorbing the souls of the Magus' WHOLE death squad that Thanos admitted he would lose to.

Warlock acutally manages to absorb a portion of Star-Thief's soul which throws away the theory that soul rip can't affect uber cosmics. IT CAN.

This is just classic... Magus saga finale... Warlock destroys a freakin' universe, blasts his Kismet trail, travels into the future, takes his own soul and erases Magus and his reign from existence.

And it also should be mentioned that Warlock exists outside the realm of Chaos and Order due to the fact that he destroyed his own future (that's why Nebula with IG couldn't see him). He isn't manipulated by destiny. He is the universe's wild card.

Warlock's death:

Warlock was mortally wounded by Thanos and then another Warlock came from the past and took his soul into the soul world (basically as you just saw above).

Warlock came back from the soul world in soul form (no gem, no physical body) for just one thing, to defeat Thanos, Warlock turns Pre-Resurrection Thanos to stone (just look at Thanos' expression... I don't think anyone else has had that effect on him).

Overall: Well, as I said in the beginning, his personal strength and power (though he never used his own energy blasts and mental powers in this era) stayed the same as on Counter-Earth, but the gem became much more powerful as of the last scan in the Counter-Earth section. Warlock became much more intelligent, skilled and faster. The most powerful version SO FAR (not counting next eras in the thread) and while he gets even more powerful as you look through this thread, this version of Warlock will ALWAYS be my favorite...

ERA 4: REBORN...BACK FROM THE SOUL GEM IN STRONGER BODY...INFINITY GAUNTLET

Drax and Silver Surfer were absorbed into the soul gem by Thanos. There they met Warlock. It was revealed that Warlock was the master of the realm. This battle clearly showcases Warlock's great speed and skill as Drax gets only one hit in as Warlock gets much more and defeats the brute without his gem. As you can see, Warlock's no slouch in the strength department either.

Here is da next powerup, while his soul powers and soul gem remained at the same level as in the previous era, his physical strength and durability, possibly speed were upgraded as he made the new body for himself. Warlock enters the soul world, uses Surfer as an anchor, then he uses his powers within the soul world to reach out to the other gems on the gauntlet and knocks the gauntlet away from omnipotent Nebula and becomes GOD! "Let there be disharmony!"

Warlock has one big low showing: Blood and Thunder. There, he and the Infinity Watch were ambushed and defeated by a group of trolls and then defeated by Thor.

Though, even in his worst storyline, Warlock was able to show off a little. For instance, he defeated Olik easily. When he fought Thor, Thor got the better of him, but Warlock wanted only to cure him, not to hurt him and still fared better than the likes of Surfer and Warlock had to save Surfer.

So, here's Warlock smacking an insane charging Thor around a little with his skill.

This is a big one. Rune aquires 5 Infinity Gems and uses the time gem to stop time. The world is stopped in time, but when he tries to attack Warlock, Warlock is able to fight back which would mean that time manipulation doesn't have much effect on Warlock. Then Warlock drags Rune (with 5 Infinity gems) into the soul world and battles out. Some stunt, eh? He stalemates Rune until his own soul gem betrays him.

Overall: While Warlock *seemed* stronger than usual during the Lyle mini, he didn't show skills or intelligence on the level he used to for some reason. This mini by Lyle was disappointing and certainly not one of my favorite Warlock versions.

Warlock vs 2 Thanos clones who rival the original in power: Warrior and Mystic. Warlock's soul gem easily countered Mystic's magic and his skill and speed yanked around Warrior (a Thanos clone multiple times stronger than the original). Then they started to overwhelm him, but Dr. Strange came and took on Mystic. From there one, Warlock vs Warrior. Warlock endures a SAVAGE beating at the hands of the Thanos clone who is many times stronger than the original, stands up and defeats him by stealing his soul and comments that he could do just as much to the original.

Overall, the soul gem can affect EVERYONE... no exceptions... It has affected uber cosmics (Star-Thief), gods and demon-types (Count Abyss, Mephisto), souless beings (Strange, Abyss' de,ons).

B: Thor incident. This is a frequent debate. Some people think that since Thor resisted the karmic blast, the soul gem has no effect on him. WRONG. The karmic blast just overpowers your anima centers, it's basically a stun gun that takes out immediately witohut hurting much, so that your opponent won't get harmed. There is NO reason why Thor should be able to resist any other power of the soul gem since the powers have affected gods, omnipotent types and much more powerful beings. It was also stated that Thor could do it because he was a god in the comic and that he could do it because he had not one will, but two (also the Valkyrie's) resisting it. Anyway, Blood and Thunder was a bad storyline and the ONLY low lever showing of Adam Warlock.

The gem has multiple times affected Quasar and Warlock managed to take him to the psychic plane and punk him there. And that's Quasar, protector of the universe, wielder of the quantum bands that supposedly make him invulnerable to such attacks.

4 INTELLIGENCE

Warlock is a master strategist, plannet and manipulator who is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve something (hey, this is the guy who sacrificed all of Earth's heroes as a distraction so he could put his own plan into motion, this is the same guy who sent out the New Men and watched them get slaughtered by cyborgs because he wanted to see what the cyborgs were capable of.

He is crafty and cunning. He won't fight like his opponent wants him to. He always thinks ahead, is always calm and ready for any kind of situation.

While I believe that Thanos' IQ is higher due to his scientific knowledge, Warlock is AT LEAST the equal of the Mad Titan in planning in tactics. When he faces an omnipotent opponent, he uses hit and run and finally outsmarts his opponent, he can come up with a strategy on the spot.

along with Thanos figured out how to beat Magus (Thanos did most of the thinking, though) during the Magus saga

figured out the Magus' plan and created a counter plan along with Thanos during Infinity War (Warlock did most of the thinking, though)

figured out the Goddess' plans and created a counter plan alone
