Really though, what's in a name? Our connection is the same no matter what I call him, and it really should not matter what anyone else thinks of it if he and I know where we stand as a couple.

Eh, I don't do my homework. I don't sign up for scholarships any more. I haven't participated in research. I don't even know if I want to use my degree. I'm just getting it. I started in '07 i'll be done in '12. He's obtained several bachelor's degrees in physics, meteorology, and music. He is currently in graduate school working on his thesis and taking classes.

I don't think that the terminology influences the relationship, the other way around seems reasonable though. It doesn't have to be though...like you said you probably know best where you stand.

Why do you not apply yourself more? Do you not like your course choice anymore, would something else be preferable to you? Did he mention to you that he minds your academic behaviour?

I don't see the point any more. I've thought about it and academic achievements are not important to me. I have not found anything that I prefer to do, but I have spent the time and effort so I may as well finish my math and physics degrees.

He told me he wishes I were more motivated, but since I told him my happiness is not based on academic success, he understands why I'm lazy and unmotivated. Thus he accepts it but thinks it a waste of academic talent.

What is important to you then? What causes you happiness? Are you not interested in knowledge in general or just academic achievement?

I have yet to find what causes me happiness, but I know what doesn't. Academic achievement. I have no problem with learning in general if I find it interesting and worthwhile.

Hmm, I could imagine academic achievement to open up more possibilities which may cause you happiness.

What things do you do then if you don't know what makes you happy but don't apply yourself academically? Watching TV?

I have copious amounts of sex.

Edit: And I try new activities.

Well, the way you described it, your friend can't have as much sex as he is more academically involved.

What new activities did you try. Did you enjoy any?

He's very good at budgeting time.

Right now I'm trying to learn the violin. It's all right. I've previously tried taking criminal justice classes, sociology classes, and next year anthropology classes. I'll also probably try to start fencing next year and ballroom dancing. Just lots of different things.

I was told today that I'm "Not the sharpest crayon in the tool box".

WTF is that supposed to mean?

They were insulting your intelligence.

By saying something makes absolutely no sense?

But you shouldn't take the comment too seriously since they can't insult you correctly.

I didn't, I actually thought it was really funny. It's my new catchphrase.

Do you do all of that with teachers or through university or do you study things yourself... auto-didactically.

Teachers and university. Although I'm going to attempt to learn organic chemistry on my own next summer.

Why not now between steamy sex sessions?

Because while I'm not motivated to do excellent in all my classes, I do have to pass them.
