France are the only European team I see winning it. They have been playing really well lately.

They've definitely got the players and the pedigree.

Teams that are always hyped and never do well: Holland, Italy, Spain, Argentina. This year I think Holland might, but the others will probably be as disappointing as usual. Argentina might do well if they get the performances going.

I think Germany will do well. Always do, and they have the home advantage. Even South Korea capitalised on that.

france are no where near the stage they once was. i cant see them winning it.

i see spain, argentina, italy to be much stronger this time around and the teams should progress further.

and watch about for ivory coast, they will cause a few surprises im sure.

Depends. France easily have the team. Better than those three, in my opinion. Spain and Italy are too overrated.

I think Portugal could do well.

Agreed. there one of those teams that are said to win everything. When wuz the last time they won the Euro cup or the world cup? long ass time ago. I have a feeling were gona have a new champion.

Lets hope we dont get shameful referees like ECUADORIAN Byron Moreno, who was beyond any reasonable doubt, a bent referee in the South Korea - Italy match to the woks.

Yea, but who wuz the italian player who got the red card from south korean referee?

im sure the koreon player who scored the winner agaisnt italy got sacked by the italian club team he played for hahahahahhaha

Because they are in a crisis right now. They can't find the right combination that breeds success. They recently lost to a watered down Croatia team last week, and they had ALL of their big guns- Aimar, Crespo, Riquelme, Messi etc.

They've always looked good on paper, but they never perform. They are perennial **** ups, and will do so again this WC. Are you forgetting that just LAST World Cup they didn't pass the group stages? lol
They only managed to score two goals. And their team was arguably stronger 4 years ago..Veron, Ortega, Batistuta anyone?

Since the post Maradonna era the farthest theyve gotten is the Quarter Finals- and that was only once...in France 98, where they lost to (drumroll).......Netherlands, who ironically will advance from their group along with Ivory Coast, who have proved that they can hang with Italy without much trouble.

Sorry Argies, but you aren't making it past the group stages.

Have you seen the Holland team then?

People (On this forums) have been naming Stam as one of our great players, people have been naming Davids is one of our great players.
Guess what? They don't play for the National team anymore!

When it comes to strikers, you are spoiled for choice. Only country that has a better strikeforce than you is Brazil.

Van Nistelrooy?
Arjen Robben?
Roy Makaay?

Good strikers doesn't make a good team...

And have you seen them play lately?
Robben was awful against Ecuador...Awful I tell you...

I don't think the current French team is anywhere near as good as the '98 team. Portugal have a talented squad, but they'll probably end up being too brittle once again. From the other teams, I'd say England, Brazil, and Argentina all have a chance. Outside bets would be placed on Holland, Ivory Coast and Germany.

Jose Mourinho "Hey Robben; make sure you dont get any knocks in your country's friendly match against Ecuador. I need you fit for Barcelona next week"

He.
The 98' team wasn't good at all.
The new team are much better and,on papers have a much better chance then the 98' team did 😬

The 1998 France team had Dugarry as their main striker.

They basically won it without any strikers; Henry was on the wing back then.

I think the defence was superior though, and maybe the midfield.

i cant remember much bk then. but they had zidane. lol thats all u need

Haha, you just made a fool out of yourself. Good job.

France World Cup '98 Team:

Fabien Barthez
Lilian Thuram
Frank Leboeuf
Marcel Desailly
Bixente Lizarazu
Christian Karembeu
Emmanuel Petit
Didier Deschamps
Zinedine Zidane
Youri Djorkaeff
Christophe Dugarry

Subs: Viera, Henry, Trezeguet.

It's true that they won the cup without the world-class strikers that are now in the team (Henry, Trezeguet, Anelka), but the defence and midfield were on a different planet in terms of organisation and team-spirit, coupled with an incomparable Zidane.

the defence and midfield was solid. imagine if henry, trezuguet and vieira was at there peak then

Yeah, it'd look something like this:

Fabien Barthez
Lilian Thuram
Frank Leboeuf
Marcel Desailly
Bixente Lizarazu
Patrick Vieira
Emmanuel Petit
Didier Deschamps
Zinedine Zidane
Thierry Henry
David Trezeguet

They'd walk it.

Not to intentionally rub salt in any wounds here, but Zidane is the sole reason that team knocked England out.

I personally like France but I don't think they were playing well enough to win. Zidane started swearing at everyone and then scored a free kick.

True, he was the catalyst, and without him they wouldn't have won. However, they still had an exceptional defence and a rock solid midfield.
