so you will be rooting for england, but not crouch, who will most likely be playing for england in the first team?
im sorry but that seems rather stupid.
you either root for the whole team, or not at all. imo.
i think hes worth a go for england. its like jan koller for czhech(?) hes not teh best player in the world but hes a target for crossing and set plays... and when you have beckham who, like him or not, is one of the better passers in the world then it kinda makes sense to play him. yes, his 3 goals were only scored against jamaica.... but no-one else scored 3 goals against them. love him or hate him give him credit for what hes done. hes taken abuse in abundance and kept at it.

You just gotta accept it and get behind him and the team.
"I'm not a patriot" he says.
No, you haven't got to accept or do anything. The Yorkshire Ripper was born in the same country as me too, should I support him? If you think you HAVE to support 11 men just because they were born in the same country as you, then you are the biggest hypocrite I've seen in a while.
Especially for someone who parades around the GDF calling people media controlled sheep. I haven't got anything against you personally, and I've said so, but I just think you need to rethink things.

patriotism - love and devotion to one's counrty
getting behing a team means im a patriot? you want brazil to win. are you a patriot of brazil?
i want england to win, but it doesnt matter if they dont. i wont be emotional. because in the end it doesnt matter. its just a game.
if like patriotic fans, you attach yourself to your team winning, you are setting yourself up for disappointment because the only way to avoid that is for your team to win. any other outcome guarantees dissapointment and frustration.
football means everything to some fans and it affects their whole life. come this world cup, millions will probably go into anger or depression when there team loses. they live their lives through their football club
im not like that. i will enjoy the game without attachment to the result, the outcome will not produce emotional upset because i wasnt attached.i may have preferred a certain outcome, but i wont be attached to it emotionally.
i was refering to df2, when i said that he should get behind the WHOLE team, and not just 10 men.
i dont need to rethink anything, its you who needs to assess whats being said before you make assumptions.
I love watching football, I have a few teams I like to see win, but if they dont, so what?

That's fair enough. My patriotism comment come from you saying "You've just gotta accept it and get behind the whole team." Why does he have to? He doesn't.

Who are you trying to convince? If Brazil beat England, I won't be on here saying "Hahahaha shame. In your face." You quite clearly would do that to me, because honestly I don't believe you don't get attached. You called me a dirty stinking traitor for supporting Brazil when I told you. Obviously you've changed your opinion for the better since then, but still.

he is choosing to support england though. theres no point in going on about about crouch. it would be pretty stupid if you coudnt accept that fact. its just a game.

i would clearly not do that to you.
it wasnt much of a problem that u supporting brazil, but the fact that you supported them because they was the best. imo thats what i thought you supported them for. if im wrong then i apologize.
i wont get pissed off if england lose, maybe in the past i would of done. im hoping to witness a great tournement overall with lots of great football being played.

As you state, it's just a game that people enjoy watching.
Why is geographical location a more sensible reason for following a team than quality?
I'm not a flag-waving, 'forgeigner'-hating, borderline-jingoistic patriot, but I would say that I want England to win.
Sure, Brazil have the best team, but - apart from anyone who supports Man. Utd/recent Chelsea-converts - since when has footballing allegiance been based solely on quality? I was born close to Tottenham, and my mother and father both taught at a Tottenham comprehensive school. I was named after a famous Spurs player from way back, and so from an early age I have always supported Spurs. It's the team I feel closest too.
The same sense of empathy can be applied to supporting England. It just feels like a natural instinct. It's strange, but I don' feel this way in regards to any other sport, band, or...thing. Only football.
When the World Cup comes around I am passionate in my support of England. I don't live in England anymore, but when I was there, I would always go to a pub to watch the games and soak-up the atmosphere. I remember going nuts when Owen scored that goal against Argentina in '98, and then I remember feeling sodomised when Campbell 'scored', only for Argentina to go down the other end and get a goal.
My support for England doesn't affect my appreciation of good football by other nations. I am looking forward to watching Holland, Ivory Coast, Argentina, Czech Republic and, of course, Brazil. However, I won't be supporting those teams as passionately as I will be supporting England because my sense of connection - as perverse as it may be - is less strong.
As for Crouch, I still think he's shit, but I'm beginning to be charmed by his self-deprecation and tragi-comedic in/abilities.
Go England!

I've supported them since 94. Admittedly they did win it then, but I didn't know they would. They went through a period of losing to stupid teams, such as China, I still supported them. I don't care if they lose their group to the worst team in it, I'll still support them.
Apology accepted, anyway. No harm done.
