New Line secures rights to film based on Epic's epic.
by Rob Burman, IGN UKUK, March 21, 2007 - Movie studio New Line has secured the rights to produce a feature based on the outrageously popular Gears of War, which could potentially be released alongside a sequel to the Xbox 360 game in summer 2009.
According to Variety, New Line won an auction to secure a 21-page treatment by Stuart Beattie, the writer of Collateral, and that if the things go well with the production "New Line and Epic would surely love to see the film and a game sequel come out around the same time".
Variety also reckons that Epic is hoping to use Gears of War's extensive back story to produce a series of film and novels. "We wanted to make an entertainment property that's not just for games but for other media," said Epic VP and co-founder Mark Rein.
"Our first and foremost philosophy is to do no harm, so we debated heavily the idea of doing a movie at all," added Rein. "But we feel we stacked the deck in our favor by working with the best players."
Once a full script is finished by Beatie, producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will start searching for a director. Well-groomed lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is set to be the executive producer and consultant on the film's development. [/B]
Oh I don't believe this!!!! A Gears of War movie!! Is that really needed? I'm surprised a Dead or Alive movie isn't being made...oh wait nevermind.
Anyone else catch the so called GOW tourny?
After reading the details I must say I am disappointed. Race to be among the top ten gamers in the leaderboards? Leaderboards are crap. This will essentially become a race to see for how long you can keep your Gamertag online with multiple friends using it. Doesn't prove skill what so ever. They could've done much better IMO.
New Gears of War Multiplayer Mode Announced
Epic releases details on new title update that just happens to be free.
by Jonathan Miller
April 2, 2007 - Gears of War continues to grow with its latest title update.
Mark Rein, president of Epic Games, announced on the Gears of War message boards that a new multiplayer game mode called "Annex" will be made available. The update will also address a number of glitches, including 720p support for VGA users.
Epic had no official comment at this time, but a Microsoft representative confirmed that more details on the update, including Annex, will be released this week. Here's Rein's complete post:
"The next title update for Gears of War is currently going through the certification process. We'll have more detail about the update next week but I can tell you that in addition to fixing a whole bunch of glitches, and providing 720p for VGA users running at 1280x1024, it will contain a brand new multiplayer gametype called Annex.
"Some folks who got to play it a few weeks ago said they think it is our best multiplayer gametype yet but I'll leave it for you fans to decide what you think for yourself when it shows up soon on Xbox Live. More details next week."
As Rein posted last week, next week is now this week, so we'll have all the details for you -- you guessed it -- this week. And yes, the update is free of cost.
And I was right, YAH!!!
