why do US government hate weed?

I honestly am mystified by their misinformation campaign. Why do they make such ludicrous untrue claims concerning the health hazards of marijuana? What do they have to gain by its criminilization?

Most correct. Marijuana is a very lucrative product, but it is also something that is resented by a majority of the public.
The governments won't risk endangering their imago and future by legalising weeds, despite the profits they can make out of it. So they ban it and formally note all activities concerning the cultivation and trading as crimes. 'If we can't earn money by it, nobody will'.

I dont get it either. If it were legal:

A) They wouldnt have to spend money fighting against it

B) They could tax it and make money off of it

You're lucky. My normal income is taxed for 33%, and the extra payment I get for over-hours or bonuses is taxed for 40%.

30k a year is the take home pay so without taxes that would be 37.5k a year.

And were would they draw the line? If weed is made legal, why not XTC, or heroine and cocaine? Hey, it makes money so so what if it destroys society?
The main function of governments is sustain a healthy and prosperous community, drugs do not contribute to that cause.
Sure there is corruption and hypocrisy, but there is more wisdom in the rejection of dope by the law than the desire to use it by the dumb junkies.
