Silva's performance was somewhat showboaty, and I do not care for that in general. Still, I'm not exactly sure what you all are complaining about apart from that. Lack of knockout?
Well aside from the showboating. It was simply the deliberate inaction in rounds 3-5. I mean silva at one point seemed to try to go behind the ref just so he wouldnt engage. Moreover, i know that silva likes to countererstrike primarily and so i didnt have a problem when neither of them were engaging. however when it became clear that maia was moving forward and trying to engage silva, all we saw was silva skipping around the ring in a circle doing absolutely nothing. I think that prides card system would have been very useful in this match..Heck UFC doesnt even have a card system and the ref still threatened to take a point away from silva because of his very odd behaviour. I dont mind decisions, hence i didnt care that GSP couldnt finish Hardy or even that silva couldnt finish leites.. What pissed me off here was silvas total show of disrespect for maia for some unknown reasons.

I blame Dana more than anything. Anderson is not content to beat up people clearly below his level and he doesn't seem particularly concerned with money or fame. He's got a rare type of fighting spirit in that he only seeks to challenge himself. Anderson must be pit against people that will force him to fight. These bjj guys who can't strike worth shit aren't going to cut it. Anderson is bored.
I have no idea what the ref thing was about. You know when you're walking and someone else is walking towards you in a hallway? You try to get out of the way, but he/she moves with you. You move the other way, and that person moves that way as well. Finally, one of you decides to commit to a path and you two laugh about it as you part ways. It might have been something like that with the ref.
It probably wasn't, but funny to imagine nonetheless.

To be honest, I think Silva was trying to goad Maia into taking the Forrest Griffin route. I know it looks bad, but I don't think he was trying to disrepect Maia as much as it seemed. He still payed his respects before and after the match.

Everybody wants to blame Silva for how bad the fight went, but Maia put no effort into trying to win the fight until round 5. Maia was just weeving his body side to side as Silva punched him in his face and even when Silva was taunting him he just stood there doing nothing. And then Maia gets mad and start throwing his hands in the air yelling at Silva. WTF?! Maia wasn't doing shit to begin with, why is he getting mad? And then the ref warns Silva, but not Maia who did less than Silva through out the fight.
Silva stood right in front of Maia through the majority of the fight, and even when he was Silva was Circling around him, Maia still didn't try to attack. Maia was walking toward him, but he never pulled the trigger until the end. Silva hits Maia like 50 times and then Maia will attack before reciving another couple of strikes to leg or face.
Silva's pissed me off he gets angry at people who don't go charging forward to strike with him and taunts them but he wont engage them in striking and he won't engage them on the ground. I think it would have been funny if Maia flopped to his back and motioned for Silva to come into his guard.
I have lost respect for Silva he is no longer my one of my top 5 favorite fighters and with his apparent ability of not being able to fight people who are tailor made for him(aggressive strikers) is no longer my pound 4 pound best (replaced by GSP or Fedor I'll make up my mind after Fedors next fight)

You're acting like Silva isn't the best striker in the UFC, and like Maia didn't get KO'd by Marquardt in 20 seconds.
Frankly, the defense of Silva is laughable. I could probably make 2 10,000 character posts on how disgraceful Silva fought, but I don't have the patience for it.
The bottom line is that Silva purposefully didn't fight to the best of his ability, and was just content acting like a jackass. That shit is disgusting, and worst of all, disrespectful to the sport.
Silva did engage, that's how Maia got a broken nose and swollen eye. Maia didn't even have to charge him, just throw a punch. I didn't understand how he would just take so many leg kicks and punches to the face and not try to return a few punches. Silva stood with his hands on his hips (all this while Maia is still standing still) and blew his nose before giving Maia another jab to his face. He acted a fool during the fight, but he still did way more than Maia.

There aren't too many bigger Silva fans than I am(I took up for him when Leites fought like a pussy & he's STILL my favorite fighter), but what he did in the last few rounds was just plain wrong. What exactly did Maia do to make Silva feel disrespected in the 1st place?

Taunting a grappler to engage in exchanges and then running away when he's coming in striking range is the definition of pussery.Silva nuthuggers can try and justify that bullshit all they want, but the bottom line is that his performance was pure ass.
What? He made Maia look like a white belt.
You've always hated Silva though. Why don't you just change your name? To ANDERSONSILVAHATERdude123. Yeah, I went there.
These Spongebob pictures doing anything for you guys?
Originally posted by StyleTime😂 No they aren't. HOW did Maia disrespect Silva's skills? He downrate them in an interview? Silva should have made Maia look like an UNCONSCIOUS white belt
If I remember the interview correctly, Silva essentially said Maia disrespected Silva's skills. That was a low blow.

To be honest, I was never actually a Silva "fan". I respect his skills, but he's never been a fighter I favored beyond that.

Originally posted by dvampireI already said Silva's only 50% responsible. Maia did NOT fight like he wanted the belt. You afraid of Silva's standup? OK. Nonstop takedown attempts then. Or maybe throw enough strikes to give Silva something else to think about so you can get that takedown you so desperately need. You are supposed to go for broke when fighting for a title. Period. If you are a ground fighter, it is YOUR responsibility to get your opponent on the ground. If you can't get them there, keep trying or go for broke w/the standup.
