Gladiator is one of my favorite films and its in my 'can watch at any time' list, so I'm keeping my hype expectations down, don't want to go in expecting and 11 and I get a 5.
I get it. I'm trying to keep expectations in check, too. But I've liked the arena footage I've seen so far. That has me pretty hyped.

They're showing the original at my cinema. Never saw it on the big screen 1st time around so may have to catch it.
Meh, it looks fantastic on the 4k disc. I honesty prefer it to theater screens. Better HDR. So I don't find it necessary to see in a theater.
Re-watched Gladiator again with my wife last night. Watched the Extended version again, and I'm kind of hard-pressed to figure out what was added, because none of it seems very wasted. I may actually try to watch the theatrical cut at some point to see how much different it is.
Anyway, I didn't realize there are already a lot of reviews in for this. Some mixed reviews, but overall pretty positive.

^ Sweeeeet. My body is ready.
This was really good. I went for the rhino and monkeys and sharks, and ended up staying for the political intrigue and drama.
I honestly think it's at least as good as the first, if not better. 👆 👆
Which is a hell of an accomplishment. I think Ridley should just make Gladiator movie, tbh. It would be better than James Cameron dedicating the rest of his life to Avatar movies.
^Glad you liked it PL.
I found it to be a disappoint. Opening battle scene was good, some of the other gladiatorial fights were good to decent, but the plot was largely meh and bloated, so bloated. The main actor mediocre to okay and the villains can't hope to even match a speck of Joaquin's greatness as Commodus, who to this day is so unlikable and irredeemable I want to still punch him in the face.
Ridley, you failed me.
I think most of us could predict you being an impossible to please grouchy old man. 😛
I found the new emperors pretty hateable. They were sadistic, spoiled little b!tches.
Man, returning to Ancient Rome with the Ridley Scott production was just glorious to me. The sets, the costumes, just incredible production design. I was expecting a worse story, tbh, so the drama and political intrigue was more than serviceable. I still have a couple of questions, but maybe not understanding a line here or there was the reason. For example I wasn't quite clear why the emperors
Spoiler:
turned on each other, was it just because the rioting had them panicking? I think I didn't make out a line or two. I suspect Denzel's character whispered something in their ear to disturb them? .
The visuals were generally all around great to spectacular, Ridley nailed that part.
Rhino was awesome. The baboons at times seemed a little rough though, like they were almost done rendering and stopped.
Spoiler:
Denzel turned the little midget syphilitic-crazed one against his brother
I'm going to watch this again when it's available at home and see if my mind changes. But I have no desire to see it again in the theater. Which I did twice for the original. Almost went a 3rd time.
