Oh man, visually it is absolutely no doubt **chef's kiss**. This is Ridley's bread and butter. I agree with the baboons, but they convinced me enough to make it work. They had to be menacing to make the scene work.

That whole plot point came off as lazy writing to me. Others too.

did look like the entire city was fu#king going to shit and chaos, so I wouldn't expect them to react in a calm and measured military response because they're both obnoxious little shits

We don't need a 4 hour cut like he's doing with Napoleon. I have no interest in watching a 4 hour version of that movie. Now, I do think some things seemed a little rushed, so I wouldn't mind another 10-15 min added back in if he does another Extended Cut.

Well I guess between the 3 of us we cover the full spectrum because this was absolutely atrocious. Paul Mescal may have been an AI generated character for as non-human as he came across. Russell Crowe could do the stoic persona and still come across well. Mescal was just a plank of wood.

There was no chemistry between any characters at any point.

It felt like a day after Lucius' wife was killed he'd totally forgotten about her.

It seemed like the plot was 3 scripts badly mashed together.

The 2 emperors were cartoonishly bad.

There were cringy references to everything from Spartacus to Attack of the Clones.

And worst of all. And completely unforgivable. They stole a line from a Scot who fought against the Romans and attributed it to Lucius and paraphrased it as well. (Calgacus)

I have absolutely no idea why this movie exists. It’s basically just a shit version of the original. Ridley Scott needs to retire, he’s almost 90, and is basically just tarnishing his legacy at this point.

. In a two hour film you have to move things along, can't linger on stuff for 30 min likes a TV series would.
