Thats awsome... i love taekwondo, but some times i serously want to try other things and so i can mix it up together and learn a whole lot of new things....

thats what I keep telling you spidergrl, that since you are a black belt now you should try other things like karate.

i know, but there aint that many around where i live, and plus, i have no spare time, not even to get a job!

okay before i take this damn sharpening stone and throw it out the window can one of you tell me how to properly sharpen a katana?

Spidergirl, my suggestion is that if you are a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, instead of trying karate, I would suggest finding a Filipino martial arts school in your area, whether it be Kali, Silat, Eskrima, or Balintawok..You would benefit from it more than karate.

I studied Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Judo before I got into Filipino martial arts and I have enjoyed it and benefited more from it than the other three disciplines.

I dont have any of those martial arts around where i live in new zealand. and im good at taekwondo fighting, I dont want to change 😉

I'm not saying give up Tae Kwon Do, cause it's a good discipline no doubt, but it never hurts to learn other disciplines to further your fighting skills...LOL I've studied four different disciplines and I incorporate a little bit of everything from all four different disciplines...
Just makes you a more well rounded fighter...Just food for thought... 😉

Just curious to ask you but where you study do they incorporate, Hapkido or Aikido or any other styles with your TKD? Most schools do.

Here is a site on New Zealand Arnis, a Filipino style.

And here is a very informative site that list a bunch of New Zealand schools of various disciplines.

Thanks i will take a look, I can imagine if you join alot of martial arts together, you would have an awsome combo of fighting style ae.....

I just fought this weekend..... 😉

Yes it def. has it's advantages. 😉 But I wouldn't say really alot of styles, but it's good to have your striking style, which is your TKD and it's always good to have a form of joint manipulations in your arsenal like Hapkido, Aikido, etc. and def. some grappling skills cause 90% of the time most fights go to the ground....

How did you do this weekend?

I used to fight in TKD and Judo tournaments alot when I was younger...

And I'm planning on fighting in some Eskrima tournaments soon. 😄

I won, it wasn't a good score or anything and i wasn't really impressed with the fight, I just really didn't like it. other martial arts put together would be totally awsome. Why how old are u?

Congrats on your win. 🙂

I'll be 30 in august...started studying martial arts when I was 13( TKD and Hapkido, got into Judo when I was 15, then got into Filipino martial arts when I was 21, so I've been in it for quite a while lol, not in shools the whole time but have never stopped training really...

I'm not much for sharpening swords myself, but you can check out this place, I'm sure you can find someone that can help you.
