Yes, you'll get a flasking from me! 😉

Taekwondo is more then tournaments and fighting. Not even 75% of the people who do Taekwondo in my country have ever been in a tournament. What does that tell you? Taekwondo means, 'stricking with the hand and foot' its got not much to do with fighting, unless you wish to follow in that direction. I personally, love fighting and thats the way i've gone. But there are also self-defense, forms, patterns, fitness, self control ....

I'll be more specific. Most American Taekwondo systems are sports. If you really want to focus your kicks, though, Taekwondo will certainly help.

I went to go see on American Taekwondo club ...... it was alright!

I believe that more countries/clubs or what ever are going to increase in fighters and tournaments very soon, as Taekwondo is becoming a olympic sport now and also that its just becoming more and more desirable to people!

See? It's becoming an Olympic sport? That's my point exactly.

Just as fencing has degenerated into a 'sport', so has Taekwondo for the most part.

Well, its not like self-defense, forms, self-control, fitness can be an olympic sport can they?!

You're right, but that's the point I'm trying to make.

Whats that?

That Taekwondo, for the most part, has become more sport than martial art.

It has become more a fighting sport ...... then forms, self-defense and everything are being pushed aside

Exactly.

So, what Martail Art do you do? 🤨

Obviously, I do Taekwondo!

I used to do Okinawan Kempo until I wound up having all of my time sucked up by work and college. When most of your time is taken up by those, you really want to use your free time to do just whatever. I'd really like to go back, however.

however ....... 🤨

'I'm busy, however, I'd like to go back' is what I meant.

well if you really want to, then you'll find time!

I'm sure Taekwondo, is quite effective as a fighting system, but as a sport it sucks. What I have seen of it, it just looks messy.

Blah blah blah ........ Dont you diss my sport boy! schmoll

It probably once was. Like I said, however, it's mostly nothing more than a sport now. The 'messiness' you're seeing probably isn't a Taekwondo thing per se, but more likely something inherent to tournament sparring. Since combatants only need to worry about tapping a certain key point on the body, they often forsake actual combat common sense to go for it. I've seen someone throw out a kick, only to have someone lean over it and try to tap their chest for the point.
