I'm sure Taekwondo, is quite effective as a fighting system, but as a sport it sucks. What I have seen of it, it just looks messy.

You were probably watching people that dont know how to fight properly! flirt

Iv'e fought a Taekwondo opponent before, I just kept doing reverse punches, too win. Kiaaa 😛

Drunken Kung fu, Tiger Style, Dragon Style, Ninjitsu, Little bit of Muay Thai, Little bit of SAMBO (russian SPETSNAS fighting style) and I know a bit of Tae Kwon do, but don't frequently use it. In my opinion TKD is worthless, both as a fighting style and as a sport. The last time I fought a TKD using enemy I threw her against the ground by grabbing her arm, twisted it around and broke her wrist, then stomped on her head until she was unconscious. She deserved it.

As for the weapons, why bother with learning that stuff? What are you going to do with your naginata when I pull a machine gun out? What are you going to do with a katana when a grenade lands in your lap? I'll tell you: Be dead. Thats what.

i see someone is painfully biased. 😐

anyways ive seen some taekwondo and i have to disagree it looks pretty worthless on tv but the genuine thing looks awesome!

Yea, like we had one representative from NZ at the olympics ...... and i believe that that put a bad name on us for taekwondo in NZ. She just stood there ..... grr 😠

yay i only watched about 1-2 minutes of the tkd olympics and i didnt think it was too good. from what i saw they were just taking turns yelling at each other and making half-assed kicks.

i dunno....but ill tell you what...i promise to give it another look at it.

also i want to point out that earlier in this thread said that fencing is not a martial art but a sport. i dont think thats true. just because the art is no longer practiced in a casual basis doesnt mean it isnt any less effective. also theres the fact that fencing deals with fighting therefore it is a martial art(a european one at that).

I understand ✅ I was watching and getting very frustrated! 🤨

It's real simple Tranceduo. I'm painfully biased towards what I know works. As to the weapons, any competant warrior will tell you that a medieval weapon being used in a modern situation is a hinderance, not a benefit. As for tae kwon do, I've taken on a number of tae kwon do practitioners and left them as either losers or unconscious. I -know- with a level of certainty that only comes from experience, that TKD sucks donkey ass.

You can get the hell out of my thread as well! 😠

I'm not going anywhere and I'm not changing my opinion. I base my opinion on what I know works. It is, after all, the logical thing to do, you know. Anyone with a brain will try what works over what he or she knows doesn't.

If you and me met in a duel, spidergirl, and you tried to win using TKD and no weapons, you'd wake up a para or quadraplegic in a hospital bed. Believe me when I say I have no qualms at all about ruining the lives of those who attempt a serious, life or death martial arts match with me.

OMG, get over yourself you ****** *****!!

I know what I know, and I've been practicing it for over 10 years. I know what Im capable of and what works for me. I dont give a rats ass what you think works for you, or what isn't good.

oh yeah i just love slinging around my naginata all over the place heck even my english teacher says that its pretty awesome...yup the principal doesnt mind it at all. 🙄

okay enough with sarcasm...how stupid are you? do you think im actually going to use that heavy ass thing when im out on the street or defending my home? of course not! i merely use it so that i can grow stronger. also if you follow the reasoning that the gun is the almighty weapon of all things then wouldnt all the martial arts you did be a complete waste?

also you might wanna tone down your arrogance. your just as mortal as any of us.

I know TrAnCeDuO hun! hug

I never actually said any value judgements about the gun. I just said that, in todays world, having a gun or other modern weapon would be a greater help than having an archaic medieval weapon.

As to toning down my so called 'arrogance'. Its never going to happen. I know I'm right, period. I don't take this firm a stance unless I know with certainty that I am correct.

As to all the martial arts I did being a waste, any experienced martial artist will tell you their chi energy flows better because of the martial art they practice. Therefore whether you actually use the style in combat or not is irrelevant.

It takes yrs

it takes years to practise marshal arts its no just about fighting, its about controling your anger, be clam no stress you have to clear your mind for 2 hours every day and have no one with you, most people think its about how to learn using a sameri or how to fight. No its about defensive action if some one aproaches you and he swings a fist at you you need to control your anger. if he hits you then you may unleash your anger all at once, but be sure you know what you are doing before you take action.

Thank You

I disagree. The point of learning martial arts is so that, in the inevitable fights that do occur, you can end them quickly, efficiently, and with minimal damage to your person. Archaic philosophy is irrelevant, for the most part. Whatever damage happens to the attack is the attackers fault and, quite frankly, none of my concern. If the attack dies of his or her wounds, well, guess who's fault that is? Those who are truely familiar with the martial arts are necessarily familiar with the human body as well. So if someone were to punch at me in a serious way, I would most likely grab their wrist, sling them to the ground, and dislocate or break their shoulder by stomping on the back of their neck while jerking their arm back as fast and hard as I could. As to when and where I unleash my anger, you, spaso, are in no position to tell me what I may or may'nt do. If someone attacks me, I'm going to do everything in my power to end that fight as quickly as possible. Whether that means engaging them in martial melee or just pulling out my glock and blowing their head off, will be determined by the situation.

Learning weapons, its a good work out, defending against them in training, will increase your reflexes & speed. And 'one more thing' you should enjoy your training, no matter what style you do. But spidergrl, learning a short range fighting system, to compliment your long range style, wouldn't harm you.

I have to say, do you know how to spell? 🤨

Any martial art that doesn't serve the purpose of quickly and efficiently ending combat with minimal damage to the practicioner is a waste of time.

Spaso, you are an idiot.

I ask you, f1, what is the point of learning how to use an archaic weapon that, while it makes an interesting movie or fiction, would in all likelyhood get you killed faster in a modern engagement?

JUST F*CK UP WOULD YOU!!!
