Probably stupid questions but I dont play online much. Is there any way I can turn off the text chats people are always having? I dont have a keyboard so I cant reply STFU. Also on the shop menu, the DLC at the top does it have everything (characters, levels) apart from the codecs and character slots.
Out of curiosity anybody else feel that this game's actually underrated? I know it was rated really well, but considering how incredible it actually was (and on literally every level - gameplay, storyline, music, graphics), I feel its acclaim should have been far more universal than it actually was, and far beyond its competitors at the time. I don't know, I just got a general feeling that for the most part it was rated as one of many great games of the year and not, as it should have rightfully been, the unanimously agreed best game of the year, by far, and one of the very greatest games ever.

well, the last level it's just the deck of the ship... and then praying mantis...and that's about it 😬but the microwave corridor 😱
Still, I absolutely hated it.
And the corridor was annoying as hell. They took a well designed game. It wasn't hard or easy.
And then spammed a billion respawning enemies and annoying ****ing robots. And the corridor from hell that almost broke my controller (and I just got the damn thing)...and then the last boss fight which uses an engine and gameplay mechanic you've never seen before. And done horribly I might add.

Metal Gear games have always been polarizing, and this one is no exception. You either love the complex and deep storyline, or you hate the convoluted and pretentious storyline. You either love the engaging cinematics that push the story forward or you hate having to sit and watch the repetitive cinematics when you wish you were simply playing the game.
It has its share of problems, no doubt.
But this is definitely the first game in the series that felt good playing it and you were not fighting the control.
Considering a game like Splinter Cell, which is one of my favourite series, has one of the best controls out there. You don't need 15 button presses to knock a guy out like you do in MGS4. I try to be silent and not use my silenced pistol alot in stealth games but in MGS4, they melee system was useless.
oh yeah i really agree with the melee system, that last fight was rubbish...i think that is the first time i used the word rubbish in a sentence, been watching a lot of british tv so yeah...anyway back to the point, i really love this game, it was absolutely beautiful, apart from a few objects that were just pasted there(probably because they ran out of room on the disk lol) the first time you encounter the frogs and merils team gets in the way ALL THE FRIKIN' TIME! and that last fight with liquid was just aweful, the controls just weren't used through the game, so you had no idea what you were doing, and even if you did, they didn't work all that well...
wow i cannot believe i just said all that negative stuff about this game...i mean i frikin worship this game...what is wrong with me? lol but to be honest, still my second favorite game of all time, first if story wasn't SOOOO important for me, mgs3 is the best game ever, not as good gameplay at all than 4 but the story is really well made, 4 actually is pretty close in that respect as well, but that just shows how important story is for me.
sorry just felt like ranting a bit lol
Yeah, I hated everything about that fight.
For a great looking game, the last fight look like shit. It could of been so much better.
But in the end, most games I think have shit endings. Look at Uncharted 2 ending.
I just tried to remember how to use the melee system when you sneak up on somebody and its ridiculous. In Splinter Cell, you sneak up on him and hit whatever button it is. Then you have a choice between killing him and not killing him. It's done after that. Very simple.
In MGS4, its like...."welll, you can do this but if you hold that button just a bit longer when he is in the kneeling position, and then hit quarter circle A+B, you can get some ammo.
I can understand where they are coming from. It's nice to have a ton of options when you choke hold them. But in reality, I just did the same thing over and over.
While in Splinter Cell, you only had a few options but I never notice that I did. I always felt accomplished when I snuck up on the guy and choke hold him. I heard the new Splinter Cell has a bajillion options on how to dispose and interrogate him.
i think one of the greatest things about this game was the extra weapons you can get, like the gun from baktai...LOL hearing snake yell "SUNLIGHT!" as he charges that gut made me laugh for like 5 min
then the musket, the one that summons a tornado...sometimes, was there something special you could do to make that work?
boktai was a bameboy game made by kojima, the character has this gun that is charged by the sun, and the cartridge has this light sensor that gets light from the sun to "charge" the gun in the game, its really cool, here is the trailer lol

Sorry but MGS >> Splinter Cell
SC capitalizes on MG weaknesses, but it does not change the fact that MG is the original... not to mention the brilliance of the story and (if you are fan) the way the game plays with your emotions.
I really loved the boss fight.. while it seem it was cumbersome to get adjusted to it, I felt right at home remembering Snake and Liquid fist fight in MGS1... that was the intention, that's how it was mean to be fought... and I appreciated the fan service.
oh boy, the fan service, the game it's choke full of them....especially the PS1 flashback... and then hearing "The Best Is Yet to Come" when you stepped into Shadow Moses.... Brilliant
