Now that you mention it, Ridley would likely be a boss.

That's what I thought too at first... until the Pokemon Rayquaza was revealed to be a boss.

Why would Sakurai have 2 dragons as bosses?

I mean, sure. He had 2 hands as bosses in Melee (Master and Crazy Hand), but they were basically twins of each other. Ridley and Rayquaza on the other hand are not twins.

It's not that he's not important; screw Dark Samus, Ridley is Samus's nemesis.

He just seems to be too huge and uncontrollable to be playable.

Too huge you say? There's a thing called resizing. They did it with Bowser in Melee so he would become playable. They can do it with Ridley too.

Even in his largest state, Ridley was only able to take up the room of a small, narrow generator tunnel in Metroid Prime 3.

And what do you mean by uncontrollable?

This video should explain it.

And no. I didn't make this.

Yeah. That's how he would fly at least.

Charizard isn't that popular, certainly not more popular than Ridley(about equal), although pokemon is more popular than metroid. If your wondering why that is, blame stealth rock, but as far as I know Infernape is more popular than Charizard, and he's behind Gyarados, Blissey, and Garchomp.

True, but as far as fire/flying types in the Pokemon universe go...

Ho-oh >>>>>>>>> Charizard

I thought Mewtwo was 😬, but whatever.

I said it first. 😛

I am serious. Just because you know who someone is doesn't make them popular. There a still are few fanboys left that still love him, but that's the case for any fictional character.

That's a hell of a lot of work you did there.

Good points. I'm just not sure if he'll make the cut.

Ho-oh is not more popular than Charizard.

Nah, Charizard beats Mewtwo in terms of popularity.

Whoo dude...good job. You show small Mario next to Bowser instead of Super Mario next to Bowser. And besides...remember this fella?

Look how big Bowser is here.

Good work R-P you have exceeded yourself once again.

A few fanboys? I've never even heard of half the Pokemon you named. Charizard is much more recognizable than any of those Pokemon. He was on the cover of the first Pokemon Game. Get real.

He may not be your favorite, or your Pokemon-playing friend's favorite, but to the rest of the world, he's a franchise icon, second only to Pikachu in popularity.

And he's for damn sure more popular and more recognizable than Ridley.

You haven't heard of half the pokemon I named because you haven't touched a pokemon game since first gen. Maybe he's not popular among my friends and I, but as far as I can tell at Serebii, Marriland, Libelldra, Smogon, and the Gamefaqs pokemon forum, he's really fallen behind in popularity. And pikachu? You can't go a day without someone talking about killing pikachu, and I never see it or charizard online.

They are common pokemon.

Indeed. 😬

Work? I wasn't the one who created that image or that video. 😛 (found that picture somewhere on google)

But yeah. After seeing that vid, you should get the point on how Ridley can be playable in Brawl.

Metroid needs more playable reps anyhow, besides Samus (and Zero Suit Samus doesn't count since she's just a dumbed down version of Shiek from Melee. I'm talking about a whole other Metroid character).

Charizard's way overrated then. Ho-oh and Mewtwo could both beat Charizard. Mewtwo even shrugged off Ash's Charizard's fire in the 1st movie.

"Your Charizard is poorly trained."
xd

Goes to show that popularity alone doesn't accurately define a character. 😬

Thanks, I guess sweatdrop (to both of you).

Anyhow, yeah. Bowser in Sunshine was bigger than ANY version of Ridley as shown in the pic ESB posted, yet Bowser was still resized to be playable in Melee. 😄

He was on the cover of Fire Red version too (for the GBA).

Likewise though, Ridley was on the cover of Super Metroid and Zero Mission.

Yeah. I noticed that too 😬 (even though I haven't been to all those places, as I'm only familiar with smogon, serebii, and gamefaqs). Charizard's popularity has gone down significantly at those sites, which I'm thankful for.

Indeed. 😄

I don't care if Pikachu's the main mascot of Pokemon, but I'm sick of that electric rat having all that merchandise made for him (like that N64 Pikachu where his cheecks light up when you turn the system on. Was ridiculous, even for a collector's item).

Same here.

I'm talking about recognizablility, foo, not how well he's liked in the Pokemon community.

Charizard is more recognizable than any pokemon other than Pikachu. That's why they're playable, and the others ain't.

And he is more recognizable than Ridley.

Coffin, Charbuck, squirtle, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Mew, are the only Pokemon I remember oh and Abbra.

Are you intentionally misspelling those names? Your memory can't be that bad. 😬

I never said Charizard could actually beat either of them. Just that he was more recognizable.

You didn't thank me. 😠

Like I said, Pokemon is more popular than Metroid.

I see what you mean. Popularity is semi-synonymous with recognizability. I guess I wasn't being clear.

yeah that was on purpose, but I can't remember any other pokemons, oh wait Snorlax there you go.

Oh. Did I also mention that Charizard got pwned by Entei in the 3rd movie as well? 😛

Charizard's popularity makes him way overrated as a character, leading others to believe he's more powerful than he actually is.

That's kinda jumping to conclusions, since we don't know yet if Jigglypuff and Mewtwo will return or not.

I can admit to that, since Nintendo has never advertised Metroid as good as they have with Pokemon (not to mention, the Metroid movie was cancelled, whereas Pokemon has had 5+ movies, with Charizard being in most of them).

Oh, alright then.
Point taken.

After all, it's not like Ridley can't crush rocks or anything too. 😛

Edit: *looks back*
Oh, you're right.

Sorry. I forgot.
Thank you too.

They slap pokemon everywhere.
