My guess is that the characters would start off on the battlefield depicted in the picture at the bottom of the update. Then, somehow, the characters would be transported to a random microgame where they either have to jump, dodge, or stay dry. Then, after the the bomb at the bottom of the screen explodes during the microgame, it'll switch back to the battlefield. I'm pretty sure it's something like that.

Then again, if you're right and we get transported back to the battle field when the bomb explodes, that will be the time to fight.
Those mini games don't last that long so I guess it won't be that big of a diversion from the fighting.
I'm just assuming though and could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure that if Sonic is in this game, he would be one of the last few updates. Or at least be announced around October or November. The people in charge of SSBB, probably, know that Sonic is one of the characters from a third party video company who people have requested for the most. Think of all the people that would go ballistic if and when Sonic is announced as a playable character in SSBB...
