also, why does obama gotta make gas cost so much? when gas was so high during bush's term, it was all bush's fault, right?

I'm confused. It's Obama's fault now, but it wasn't Bush's fault back then? POTUS has little control over gas prices whether he rides a donkey or an elephant.

If oil was cheap in the US, no one would want to sell there, and then oil would become expensive, because the suppliers would be selling it higher somewhere else and improving their profit margins. Supply drops, can't meet demand so prices go up. Of course, that's a fantasy US. Oil is expensive and demand remains stable because it's gas and the demand curve for gas is probably somewhat similar to demand curve for appendix removal.

You ****ing need it; either you need it or the bus needs it.

Bush was blamed for it.

I remember that, Bush being blamed for... absolutely everything. Someone had their car stolen, blame Bush for creating an environment that drives criminals to crime. All Bush's fault.

But not Obama's. He's black, so if we said that then we're racist. Klan meeting @ 5.

The unfairness of being in management. That said, blaming Bush for shitty gas prices is stupid.

Double standards exist on both sides. The Republicans were blamed for the shitty economy, Obama is getting credited for the (alleged) pick up of the economy.

I don't get how people assume presidents have direct and absolute control over the economy in 4-8 year periods at all times. True, it's a traditional role of the president to have an economic plan, but he's not legislative.

Because human beings are stupid, which is why I'm a huge supporter of a country being run by an elite few than letting morons have a say in it.

'Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.'

A President is a figurehead. A scapegoat we can blame for stuff when we get pissed at things the government does.

In other words, 18th Century Republicanism?

Yes!

I agree, but only if we are included in the elite minority.

So sayeth the Brit, who doesn't have a prez, but a PM, who has far more power than POTUS.

Oh then that Queen lady person.

These do not equate.

Let me clarify then. The republicans are being blamed for a continuously shitty economy getting shittier on Obama's watch. Obama then gets credit when it looks like the economy could be picking up. I did not type that out correctly the first time.

I've never liked the British system of indirectly voting for the PM.

I don't like the idea of voting all that much when it comes to national shit. People are ****ing stupid and not qualified to make judgement calls on things like running a government. US democracy is designed to prevent any one person from gaining too much power. The whole "power to the people" is just extra crap to make it sell to the mob.

Considering the US public doesn't directly elect two out of three branches of government, we hardly have rabble rule here.

Which is why Elliot Spitzer's idea of bribing the hoi polloi to vote is so retarded.
