The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Bladerunner wasn't based off of Neuromancer. It was based off of Philip K. Dick's Do Android's Dream of Robotic Sheep?.

I would rank the three movies as Promethius > Alien > Bladerunner. Truthfully, I dislike them all though. Promethius and Alien have too many plot holes and idiotic characters, while Bladerunner just bored the **** out of me (as did the novel). I haven't seen the director's cut, though, which I've heard is a lot better.

And yeah, Roy Batty's end scene was awesome.

I'm fully aware of this, and if you read carefully, you'll note that I said "the novel it was based on" as opposed to typing out the entire title because screw that. Blade Runner certainly has Neuromancer-inspired atmosphere.

Definitely see Director's Cut. Much better.

Wait, how does Bladerunner have Neuromancer inspired visuals? It came out in theaters before the book had even been written...

Saw Magic Mike. I'm disappointed that I'm disappointed.

Shallow criticisms:

Entirely too much Matthew Mcconaughey. He is repulsive and should've been sidelined ASAP.

Little heavy on his guybutt, too.

For a movie aimed at women, there's an abundance of breasts flopping around. It's not that I don't like titties; just that when guybutt is the premise, it shouldn't take a big buildup for 1.5 seconds of cheeks while breasts just hang out like nobody's business.
The plot was way too prominent. Both of us were bored more often than not.
Even where the routines were interesting (~65% of them were fun) they were too short, or too frenetic to convey the atmosphere. Flickering from oblique to pec doesn't do much to establish styles or identities.
Shallow praise:

I enjoyed Bomer's drug-dealing new-age character, who passes out E like candy while refusing S&M because of "bad energy."
Tatum is an athletic dancer.
Pettyfer is pretty (even with that freaking thing on his chin).
Anecdotes:

We were 2 of the only 4 guys I saw at the theater.

Guy no. 3: 16 year old on a date (didn't notice him macking on his girl.) 😬

Guy no. 4: 65+ year old spherical old guy sitting alone. (We lol'd.)

Many of the women had been pregaming; as their buzz wore off the theater quieted down (because it was so boring).
Slightly deeper criticism:

Even after untold hours of porn watching mechanical, stonefaced dudes going at it, this triggered my squick meter. There's a huge stigma against guybutt (there's one scene with truly unpleasant jiggle). I went in expecting to enjoy pretty men, but instead was uncomfortable with the level of objectification. I wonder if this is how regular Hollywood movies make women feel all the time?
As a measure of whether women are a valuable target audience, this appears to be a success. Maybe edging in through the women's sexuality angle rather than women's strength angle will result in more strong female protagonists?
IDK, I'd rather have spent the time macking on my boy, rather than sitting in the theater. Honestly though, we couldn't not go to this movie. Lesson learned, I guess.

Forgive me for putting the cart before the horse once. Because you know, I'm just full of devious misinformation.

Thats the most sarcastic acknowledgement of being WRONG! and stoopid that I've seen in a while.

They should ditch the guns and upgrade to log-traps, the true way to fight AT-ST's.

Don't let Borbarad here you say that. He'll swoop in here and violently cry that those AT-ST's weren't actually destroyed by the logs, they were just knocked out.

He doesn't actually argue that, does he?

That sounds unlike him, to be honest.

No, of course not. lol.

Him and I were arguing about the effectiveness of modern day weaponry versus stormtroopers a couple years back. His assertion was basically that stromtrooper armor would allow imperial forces to walk through hails of gunfire unimpeded like Terminators. When I pointed out that RotJ clearly shows judo flips, wooden arrows and rocks thrown by teddy-bears compromising stormtrooper armor, his counter-argument was that none of the stromtroopers we see getting manhandled by the ewoks were actually injured, they were just knocked over or stunned. I lol'd in real life and that's just become a running joke for me now.

Finished reading the Tales of the Jedi series last night. It was definitely a much better read for me this time than when I read it last time, five or six years ago.

The Hyperspace war storyline sucked and the Daragons are unlikable morons. Nomi Sunrider's origin story was also kind of lame, but once Exar Kun's storyline started up the series was on a high-note till it ended, pretty much.

And on a side note, I think that the series pretty much establishes that Vader was using the force to deflect Han's shots in ESB, not the armor on his hands.

I still can't believe people used to argue about that, to be honest.

Is it so hard for most people to put 2 and 2 together?

There was some confusion about an amulet that he had put into his hand iirc. I think a few sources claimed that that was how he did it.

Hm, I'd guess that was from a comic or something?

Even when I was younger and saw ESB for the first time, I knew Vader blocked those shots with the Force.

Then I saw the lengthy and protracted battles that would occur all over the net later on, debating the subject..

The Ultimate Visual Guide said Han's blaster was no match for the power of the dark side. Also, Plagueis was able to deflect blaster bolts with his hands.

Aye.

I laughed a lot at this:
