Fair question, and the relevant thing is that the new films will almost certainly create a new continuity of their own, and we'll start to head more towards a Dr. Who-style "There isn't really any continuity" situation (though not quite THAT disjointed).

That being so, the old rule wouldn't really be relevant, though I'd still prefer a policy rule of some kind around here. The reason it was introduced in the first place- back when this was a Star Wars only forum- was to stop the ridiculous arguments that went around in circles based on what the posters thought counted or not.

Wow. Yeah, I definitely agree that we need some rules, if only to deal with all the contradictions and the arguments. I don't really have any ideas on what the continuity rules would be, but I think you guys should think about it until the new movies. That being said, I'm cool with sticking with the current rules until then.

My default is to stick with Lucas for two reasons- it's very simple, and he mentions that he's given his ideas to Disney so we can maintain the position that it's as closer to him as we can now get.

The problem is what to do then if some glaring discrepancy obviously appears, or if some official statement is made which casts doubt on that. We'll see.

Lucas became such a control freak and micromanager that I have a hard time believing he'd put himself into such a situation that Disney or Kennedy could contradict his vision.

Just in case anyone hasn't read the news.

WTF?! This for real?

Guess Supershadow spoke the truth all along!

Edit- Yep it's all over the news! New SW movies.. Can't believe it!

Listening to the conference call right now, apparently the trilogy Disney intends to release comes from George's personal notes (around the 17 minute mark).

Yeah, but notes for what? He's always maintained he never had notes for post ROTJ because that was his endpoint. So that leaves

a. His very early ideas for the three films originally set between ESB and ROTJ

b. His ideas for spin-off films for characters like Solo

or

c. Someone is making something up, at some point

Probably option A.

Which would be the most interesting option, but I worry it is some form of c.

And as those films were based around Luke finding his sister (before they made her Leia), there are issues there.

Maybe we'll get Dark Empire the film. May God have mercy on us all. Though it could be worse: They could make a KotOR II or TOR film.

TOR film would be... Canon fodder. 😄DDD.

TOR is creatively bankrupt.

TOR would be cool.

Nah, it would be flashy. Cool requires a good story, which TOR lacks.

My initial reaction was "Oh no", but then a second later I realized that removing Lucas from the equation can only be a good thing. Personally, I'm hoping they do something that eradicates everything in the EU post-RotJ.

I'm more concerned what this means for the Indiana Jones franchise.

Ok, I'm fine with this. More SF movies!

It *will* probably mean things'll break away from the current EU. At least, in terms of post-RotJ stuff. Possible pre, if they do earlier movies.

What's 'SF'?

Science Fiction.

According to their Q&A, Indiana Jones wasn't part of the deal.

The Imperial Agent storyline was awesome fool.

And I've heard good things about the Sith Warrior.
