In light of the fact that Thanaton is similarly referred to as "supremely powerful", coupled with his unimpressive showings relative to his station, my current decision is to reject the various adjectives of Vitiate as inherently hyperbolic. Allowance will continue to be made for the more specific descriptions of Vitiate's abilities.
This was a very difficult decision to make, but typical of me, it is wise and fair.

My issue with the description derives from the fact that Vitiate is also described as such. If Vitiate and Thanaton are both described as "supremely powerful", it would suggest parity between them, which we know is not the case.
Now, other, more precise terms like "history's most powerful dark side master" and "largest dark side nexus the galaxy would ever see" carry much more weight.
It's nice to know that the government kind of sort of knows what it's doing.
