They won't follow Post-ROTJ eu. Why would they? It would seriously restrict the stories they can tell.
I doubt the Eu will be able to put them both together like they've tried in the past. Because they might even use completely different characters for the Skywalker kids.
Anyway say good bye to DE Sidious 😛
It will just become 2 alternate timelines, The Eu one and the Sequel one.

I would say, making the movies Pre-RotJ would restrict the stories they can tell - not Post-RotJ.
The KotoR era of Canon, for instance, is highly-cemented in the established overall Star Wars Canon, as they still have lucrative financial ventures tied in directly with this.
Regardless, it has already been confirmed by many different people that the stories will take place Post-RotJ, where, upon wiping out the previous Novel storylines, they will, on the contrary, have a very liberating opportunity to tell any and all stories they want.

They will use different characters.
The conceptualists designing the up and coming movies will be pooled from Disney and Lucas will be kept on as a creative consultant.
Lucas' ideas never went in line with the EU Novels anyway, and the new designers will want to head in new directions, so no Jacen and Jaina.
Mara Jade will have never existed in this new Sequel Timeline, so no Ben, either.

The EU Timeline will be become defunct.
The sad part is, that means Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight never happened; Kyle Katarn never existed, etc.
It will destroy the few good characters that were produced in the EU.
Also bad for Luke and Sidious fans - how will RotS Sidious be able to take on Darth Nihilus?
DE Sidious could stand a good chance, but not simply RotS Sidious.
And Luke in the new trilogy will likely either be beneath Yoda in power, or perhaps at his level - which still makes him too weak to take on some of the more deadly Sith Lords in hypothetical duels.
No Abeloth though, so that's nice.
I wouldn't just assume they will wipe out all previous characters from that era. After all who would have thought Quinlan Vos would show up in the Clone Wars animation? They will borrow what they like from the EU. Ignore what they don't.
Lucas being a creative consultant doesn't mean much tbh. They will just use his name to show it's still SW. Fact is he always said there are no stories after ROTJ.
And there's just so many novels post ROTJ, it basically will end up being 2 different timelines Imo.
I am ecstatic! I am also disappointed. My opinion has not yet resolved itself and you guys don't care about it anyway.
More importantly: The Dresden Codak Kickstarter is open and breaking records. You guys should definitely take a look at his comic and the blog where he is illustrating the Silmarillion.

Not very likely.
I know a Barriss/Ahsoka shipper on deviantart, I wonder what their reaction'll be.

Unrelated to that, I just read through the old Dark Empire comics. It was a very silly series!
Highlights include: Luke meets, then dramatically turns Kam Solusar to the lightside, getting hidden insights into Palpatine's dark side 'elite'... purely off-screen, we don't meet him in DE1, and by DE2 he's already turned.
Luke meets and recruits 3 other potential Jedi or former Jedi, not counting Kam. All die! Leia gets one, Vima, who goes missing. So only one actual recruit in the whole thing.
The famed force storms really aren't very plot-important. They're used to pick up Luke in the beginning, then once Luke and Leia already kick Clone Palp's butt it serves as his karmic disney death. He never uses it again.
Sedriss is actually a fairly solid villain... til he meets Luke 1/3rd through DEII and dies ^^ His replacement is a joke.
Seeing Luke and Kam and Leia continually punk dark side adepts never gets old, though.
Another love interest for Luke! One of the recruits who dies, of course, but Luke had, what, 4? in the early EU. And this was *after* Mara Jade was introduced!
Sooo many superweapons. Which weren't really that super, and even though the Galaxy Gun was the big threat, it really took a back seat to the force stuff (which was fine- the Jedi stuff was more character driven) while the world devastators got more focus due to Luke's Imperial Commander role.
Also, luring Luke in with the promise of a Supreme Commander job? Seriously dumb plan. Sure, it got Luke in close, but it allowed him to deploy forces like an idiot, and then just hand tons of codes and plans to the Alliance anyway. It did lure Leia in too... by which point Luke and Leia working together could kick Palp's butt!
Palp gets his butt kicked a lot in this series too. He manages to beat Luke once, but in the second fight, he loses in sabers, tries a force storm, then loses in force. And then later on, once he has a degenerating clone body? Leia hits him with a force-wammy! He manages to kill the Jedi-recruit and the cyborg Jedi before going down, but still, it's funny he's considered so strong by many due to his force storms when really he gets his butt kicked so much. Movie Palps was honestly the more impressive.

This newest arc is very good so far. This is the kind of stuff I had thought the show was going to have originally, only season-spanning. And it's a welcome sight to see Jedi actually using their Force powers extensively in a battle. Clever use of TK should trump lightsabers.
IMO Lightsabers should always remain important in battle. They are the signature weapon of the Jedi and Sith for a reason.
