So the Zimmerman trial is on CNN. This is the first time I've ever seen footage from in-court, and I can't think of a more sanctimonious individual than the lawyer trying doing cross-examination on this doctor. The strength of my knee-jerk reaction makes it obvious that jury trials are all politics.

Heck yes, trial by combat all the way.Of course, Zimmerman getting his ass kicked (despite having a gun lolwtf?) is what started this whole thing so I don't fancy his chances.
I disagree. I think the best the prosecution can hope for is a manslaughter charge. From everything I've seen regarding this trial, it has looked more and more like self defense. Although there's a smidge of vigilantism going on, I don't think it's enough to even warrant a manslaughter charge.
I wasn't making a judgement about the guys guilt. I was joking in fact. But if you insist....
Really? Barely even manslaughter? Zimmerman followed the kid despite being told not to do so. Trayvon himself was trying to get away from him. Zimmerman had the actual motive to start a fight and he had a gun. Trayvon himself was justified in fighting back considering he was the one being followed by a threatening man talking on a phone. Even if Zimmerman was getting his ass beat it was his own damn fault and doesn't justify him shooting an unarmed person.

You two are being silly.
Zimmerman should be looking at a manslaughter charge and receive the full brunt of public scorn and humiliation. That the authorities, en route, told him to stop his pursuit should have been the end of the wretched affair. His probable racism and annoying inquisitiveness resulted in a young man dying. This is unacceptable.
That said, DS is right in one respect: Trayvon initiated the attack and while I sympathize with that fear-motivated decision, it was illegal and a step too far.
The bottom line is that two men (not one) made some pretty stupid decisions that resulted in a pine box for one. It can be debated ad nauseam which is the guiltier party, but let's not spin this into a fairy tale that Zimmerman, rabid and frothing at the mouth, donned a white pillow case and murdered his prey after a prolonged, sadistic chase like a racist Zaroff.

1. The state made the massive legal blunder of asking for murder 2, instead of manslaughter, or even man 2 with the option of lesser charges. This is paramount because it's highly unlikely that they're going to get a murder 2 conviction and it points to their greed.
2. The state is going to have to prove there was any racism involved. This isn't "the view", where fat, unintelligent women rush to a conclusion based on their "intuitions". There really isn't a logical ground for "racism" as much as Zimmerman trying to go full batman.

Not sure what this makes "wrong" in my post. I agreed that he should be looking at manslaughter, not murder.

That was speculative commentary by me, not the state. Otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned public scorn and humiliation, which are also things the state has no legal power to regulate or direct. I'm saying that I think Zimmerman was a moronic punk whose flirtation with real law enforcement is what ultimately got a kid killed.
I agree that he shouldn't be facing murder charges and Martin's own actions played a huge role in the latter's death.
This case was a liberal misfire, no doubt.

This is iffy. As part of neighborhood watch, he took the proper steps in the "protocol". Could he have gone a little too far? Maybe.
When the police tell you not to follow someone, you really shouldn't follow them. Also, what neighborhood watch carries a ****ing gun?
'A little too far' is shooting someone? I'd hate to see you go overboard. Zimmerman didn't even have a good reason to be following him.

What? Trayvon was moving away? Really? Is that before or after he confronted Zimmerman and a fight broke out?
Before. 😬
You know, at the part Zimmerman says 'he's running' on the tape.

Trayvon wasn't fighting back. He initiated the fight. And I thought Trayvon was running away?
He initiated the fight according to Zimmerman. Funnily enough, Trayvon hasn't been able to give his own account.

Lol. If you're getting your ass beat in by a rock, and you have a weapon, you're either going to die or you're going to discharge your weapon.
Rock? Even Zimmerman only claims he was punched, and iirc there wasn't anything indicating Trayvon was hitting his head against the sidewalk like he claimed.
I see no reason offhand to doubt Zimmerman's account that Martin began the fight. He was diligent enough to notify the authorities (even if he did stupidly disregard their advice) and, as you say, had a gun. He had no need to initiate the fisticuffs and, if he did, I see no reason why the fight wouldn't end after one punch-- BANG!
I do: He has spectacularly good reason to lie, theres nothing corroborating his story and Trayvon isn't alive to give his account. His story stinks frankly. Trayvon attacks him for no reason after running away? He tries to kill him, again for no reason? It sounds like exactly the kind of story Zimmerman would make up to support self-defense.

Really? Hm. So that's why he called the police, told them he shot Trayvon, and waited to be taken into custody? Sounds like someone trying to cover his tracks.
I'm not insinuating that he's some cold-blooded killer or that he wanted to kill Trayvon from the off-set or anything. I just seriously doubt that his story is accurate. He has so much reason to lie, his story is so heavily slanted in his favor and nothing to support or deny his story that I'm inclined to ignore the whole thing.
Respect, fools.
