And morons we keep electing for the Senate, and to a lesser extent, the House.

Get your shit together, America. You think after 50 years of being the worlds hush-hush joke you'd learn, but nope.

Honestly--and I'm not joking--but your "lols" aside, you really come off as a bit of a war mongerer.

There's no need for us to do anything about Russia because, despite what it looks like, Russia is doing its own self in.

There economy is in shambles, much much worse than ours, their infrastructure is shit, they're starving for natural resources and the eastern blocks are sick of Putin's nonsense- perhaps not enough to actively embrace the West, but enough to quietly not bro fist with him either. The only reason Russia is still even a blip on the international radar is because of tradition and their oil, and the latter isn't helping them as much as one would think.

Their neighbor, China, is extremely hungry for resources and land, and while they may be "cool" with Russia for now, they're also eyeing all that oil and tundra with more than a little salivating.

Putin is a man with delusions brought about by having a political mindset that worked during the cold war but is meaningless now. What we're seeing from Russia isn't a series of power-play expansionism, it's the defiant rumbles of a sick and dying lion.

Got any articles for China actively pursuing Russia's natural resources?

They're not actively pursuing Russia's natural resources.

B-but the Cold War! And Communism! And scary Ruskies! It's all very frightening and Obama needs to do something about it. I don't know what he could possibly do that won't kill millions of people or ruin the global economy, but he needs to get the results I crave without doing something I disapprove of. Or else I'll call him weak and incompetent.

Yup. Thats exactly what I said. I also somewhere made a prediction, and advocated war. ROFL.

Yup, that would totally make sense coming from someone who doesn't appear to read properly or is in the habit of creating arguments out of thin air, and then trying to criticize them. Aside from your obvious strawmanning and complete lack of understanding of simple words, I have a wonderful book for you:

Nice dodge you got there young man.

If doing anything other than sitting on your ass constitutes war mongering, I wonder what LL thinks of actual war mongerers or brutal dictators.

Google bought Twitch. The rise of the cyberpunk mega-corporations is proceeding smoothly.

Old news m8

Which, Google acquiring Twitch or civilisations steady progress towards dystopia?

Both.

Twitch was bought out awhiles back, month or two ago.

I'm okay with it. It's going to be irritating having to integrate everything with my google+ acccount, but whatevs.

Yeah, that was a fantastic dodge.

You want Obama to do more about Putin, but aside from attacking Russia's economy or it's sovereignty, there isn't anything else to. I doubt you would want to hurt the global economy, (he's already authorized sanctions that have hurt Russia quite a bit) so, when you want Obama to "do more about Putin", the only option left is military attacks. Apparently you think we're "one incident away" as it is. Either you have some imaginary fix-it solution that you can see but Obama can't, or you want him to stop "Putin from doing whatever he wants". Economic sanction don't seem to be working (obviously, otherwise you wouldn't have complained about the issue), so... only one option left. War is on your mind--what else you could possibly want Obama to do?

Thus, you're a bit of warmongerer.

It's okay, you can admit it. I'll hold it against you for being a scumbag, but you can admit it.

There was nothing to dodge other than your pitiful attempts at a strawman.

And he's getting closer, ladies and gentlemen!,

I doubt you would want to hurt the global economy

Please explain how this is going to happen with economic sanctions.

(he's already authorized sanctions that have hurt Russia quite a bit)

Such as? I'm wondering if you know.

Apparently you think we're "one incident away" as it is.

Yes, from a Cold War, which apparently you're having trouble understanding and confusing it with an actual war. Let's chalk that up to another concept you don't get.

Thus, you're a bit of warmongerer.
war·mon·ger
ˈwôrˌməNGgər,-ˌmäNG-/Submit
noun
a sovereign or political leader or activist who encourages or advocates aggression or warfare toward other nations or groups

Hmm. Since I advocated neither, we'll add this to a 3rd word/concept you're having trouble dealing with? If you wanted to argue any kind of aggression, it's what I would advocate for Israel. Then again, it's not exactly aggression if it's retaliatory. But I was just trying to amuse myself with your fictional arguments.

It's okay, you can admit it. I'll hold it against you for being a scumbag, but you can admit it. [/B]

I would take you seriously on this matter but it seems you're having so much trouble with simple concepts, you're in a little over your head.

Don't kid yourself, there are neither here.

Sanctions can be more than just chequing account freezings or visa bans. If you want Obama to force Putin to relent via sanctions, then anything strong enough to damage one of the largest economies in the world in to submission is going to hurt others as well. Likely severely. Germany and much of the EU are worried about increasing sanctions, they rely heavily on trade with Russia. If Russia is broke, then they'll start to go broke. Globalized economy and whatnot. You like economics, so I know you already knew this.

$75 billion in capital flight. The IMF apparently estimates it'll top $100 billion by year's end. In a country with a GDP of ~$2 trillion, that's not a small sting. BBC reported that their stock markets fell 12%. Was there more? Did I miss any others?

The f*ck is a "cold war"? What, do they fight with cryo weapons or something?

You're advocating something. You didn't seem to like the idea of "Putin doing whatever he wants" and you feel there needs to be "some serious reaction, otherwise Putin will continue expanding his powers."

If you don't advocate military intervention, and I know you wouldn't want the economy hurt in a post-Recession world... then what are you advocating?

EDIT: also: warmonger

(pejorative) a bellicist, someone who advocates war; a militarist

I know economics, that is why I'm asking you to explain how economic sanctions on Russia are going to cripple the world economy. Simply stating "they'll go for broke!" doesn't answer anyone's question.

Here's a start

The f*ck is a "cold war"? What, do they fight with cryo weapons or something?

cold war
noun
a state of political hostility between countries characterized by threats, propaganda, and other measures short of open warfare, in particular.

In other words, NOT an actual war? Lol

Further economic sanctions to start. But you seem content with the fact that Putin is slowly expanding his borders, on the sole basis that if we do anything remotely aggressive, WWIII!!

(pejorative) a bellicist, someone who advocates war; a militarist

Since I didn't advocate a war, you're still behind.Here's a start

The title of that looks interesting, but I'm not subscribing to the Wall Street Journal just to read it. Have another link?

It ISN'T an actual war? Yeah, I guess that is pretty lol.

I'm not content with it, actually. Land seizure isn't cool, brah.

What magnitude of sanctions would you want Obama to enact?

You didn't... and you still don't? I don't think you've outright said you're opposed to it, but if you are, just say so. Flat out, no sarcasm, just answer honestly: do you favor military invention to enforce Western values?

God damn it, not 15 minutes ago it was the entire article.

It ISN'T an actual war? Yeah, I guess that is pretty lol.

The only lol is your misunderstanding of cold war vs. actual war. And the potential for a nuclear strike in a cold war still doesn't make it a war. But I digress.

As far as sanctions, try this again:

Hold on, how do we get from you accusing me of advocating war against Putin to me advocating military aggression to enforce western values? Really going off on a tangent here are we but I'll play the game. So what you're really asking is, would I have supported the Vietnam War. The short answer is yes, the slightly longer answer is not for military aggression to enforce western values, but to stop the spread of communism. I'm a big fan of the policy of containment.

I supported the Chilean and Guatemalan coups, and I'm still not sure about the contra scandal.

Very surprised and impressed. Always thought Stern was incredibly intelligent but just couldn't stomach his shows. Too raunchy. Also his stance on guns, but this was nice.
