The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

1. Don't really like him.
3. I don't recall the last time I missed a denzel movie. He is absolutely a top 5 actor of all time for me, if not top 3. Safe House and Man on Fire were phenomenal but for me (just on the top of my head), he was the best in Crimson Tide. Also, he was phenomenal in Equalizer.

Also, for you:

Seriously, I've spent 99% of my years trolling on this forum but this is me being genuine. Gideon, RH, Janus, Faunus, and even Nai. Getting my ass kicked for years by you guys definitely helped me become more tolerant of those who think differently.. Well, as long they can be logical about it. My ass is still conservative but I'll be damned if my thinking is as black and white as it was years past.

Stunning news everyone: It sucks to be a woman on the internets.

Also: Gaston is the scariest villain in Disney history.

Is it because of his misogyny?

I don't follow football. To those of you who do, did this really happen?

Partly. But partly because he really could be anyone in the world. And partly because despite what a raging dick he is everyone fvcking loves him and finds him charming as hell. While nice but abnormal people like Belle and her father are ostracized. Gaston demonstrates that bullies are rewarded and beloved by society as long as they possess a certain set of characteristics, while nice people who don’t are rejected. Which is scarier than a giant monster or evil god because its something that actually happens and people like him really exist.

Disney agrees. iirc, the original incarnation of Gaston was a generically ugly evil dewd- the change to make him an attractive, more "heroic" looking fellow was somewhat controversial.

Always love the amount of people who watch that movie, see Belle's perspective, grow to hate Gaston, and then completely forget the message once the movie's done. That love story was just too important.

No debt for me Janus. Head is purely for enjoyment.

Called it.

Missed you, champ. I dug around, thought you might've jumped ship after hitting the big 10000. Glad to see this is not the case.

Spoiler:
I'd post a gif of Frodo jumping into Gandalf's arms, but it's too soon; I wouldn't want to cheapen the moment with my Dave.

oh god I need it.

Yea can't wait for this movie. Despite my earlier reservations, McConaughey is a top actor. And I really believe his personality in True Detective is his real personality.

Crimson Tide is a really underrated movie.

Incredibly underrated. They don't make them like that anymore. Phenomenal acting with all star cast.

He was penalized but the image creator is just trying to provoke a response. The Tebow thing is mostly true but the part of him being labeled as a role model is irrelevant.

While it is true that the Muslim player got penalized for his celebration, it was likely out of ignorance not knowing that it was a prayer. NFL refs are horrid for a myriad of reasons but this was not out of religious spite. This is the NFL stance of trying to show "gamesmanship" by penalizing any excessive celebrations. Dunking the goal post is now considered a penalized action. Spiking the ball with excessive force is considered an illegal action.

The refs are just trigger happy, in love with their own voices and screen time for calling the flags. But they are not religiously intolerant. The Tebow comparison is meant to incite people.

If you were Hackman would you follow orders and fire the nuke or would you be Denzel?

The problem with that question is that I've seen the movie over 100 times. But lets try it. It's not a question of whether or not would I fire a nuke but with a nuclear weapon, I would have to be absolutely sure. The question is a chain of command and in a nuclear sub, the rules are clear. The XO has to agree with the CO's commands which is why the XO repeats said commands. The CO has cannot make a decision without the XO without legitimate justification. Based on those rules, Denzel acted within the letter of the law and assumed command of the vessel, but not so much the spirit of the law I think. Then we get 30 minutes of dick measuring and the Naval Chief at the end was right when he said "You were both right, and you were both wrong". Although I need to remember what it was that Hackman was right about specifically. I think he did act within the letter as far as arming the nukes goes but negated that aspect when he tried to remove the XO.

Going for round 2 of Equalizer. Also Fury looks to be the greatest war movie ever made just from previews.
