If we are in agreement about this, then how are you ok with discussions of "if he exists he sucks because ....."?
Well. Arguments of that kind stem from a very humanistic (and atheistic) view on the issue. If there is a being with the powers attributed to God, how can it / he allow all the "evil" things in the world? Probably one the most eloquent rants on the issue came from Stephen Fry:
I understand him completely, though I do not necessarily agree with him on all of those points. But if God exists, one could come to the question, if you need him as a human being. I don't see much reason to say "Yes." in this case, but I'm not attempting to change the minds of people who do.
Who wrote the torah then?
According to the Talmud, the Torah was written by Moses. But that was called into question in Medieval times already. Do I really need to lecture you on the holy texts of your own religion?
But if God is beyond explanation, then we don't understand why he allows what he allows. Or the fact that he allows free will to take place, etc..
Yes. But why should that prevent us from arguing about it? 😉
Fair point, but you just described the God of Judaism. We can only grasp what we are told or what is implied based on reasonable evidence. Other people who already don't believe in a higher being, decide to put a "human" tag on god to justify their arguments.
Well. Yes. But what else would they do? We can just analyse the (in)actions of this higher being according to our own experience (e.g. logic, ethics, name what). And according to those things, certain activities attributed to God don't make much sense - or seem to be outright evil. You could ask yourself, why God allowed something like the shoa to happen. The same being that, literally, smites people for worshipping idols and gave the Egyptians a kick in the nuts for keeping the people of Israel as slaves, just sits and observes, while 6 million of his people are industrially killed by the Nazis.
And after one had dozens, hundreds or thousands examples like that, one may arrive at a very simple question: If God exists and he acts (or doesn't act) like he does, why should one worship him? I, personally, don't see much reason.
I agree with this, which makes these "god" discussions even more frustrating.,
Well, DS, to be honest: They are just frustrating for people that do believe in God. Because not only are they completely cut off from any "rational" argument to "win" such a debate, but, technically, they need to be worried about the fate of everybody that dares arguing them.

I'm so conflicted about the Han solo movie; none of the actors' names I've seen floated fit the character at all :/
Good luck! If you want/need ME2 in order to get the chance to choose your backstory then I've got a 360 disk (for 2 AND 3 actually) that gamestop values at .88$
that doesn't even pay for the calories spent riding my bike to the flipping store. i am going to be lucky to get more than a dollar per disk for my entire game collection and it is outrageous

It's surprising. I expected it more from the left. I remember a Crimson or Master Crimson fellow that used to come here and argue that "taking a life is never right". At least I think. But yea those two are on the opposite side of crazy.
You know I don't defend the "all life has value" bullshit. I'm also not hardcore on gun control. Responsible gun use, yes. Locking up ARs, no.
