Watching Trump openly advocate super-torture and targeting civilians who are related to terrorists made me think of Truejedi and his argument that the families of terrorists should be dragged into the center of their towns and executed in order to dissuade other families from hiding terrorist identities.
Whew lad.
@Nai, did you get a phd?
Thesis has not been printed yet, which is a prerequisite for the title here. So, technically speaking: No. 😉
if so, why did you not warn me about the hellscape that has replaced my free time?
Well.
The amount of time needed to get a PhD is highly dependant on the field of study and the subject of choice. And I didn't know you wanted to get one in the first place. 😉 Sometimes I envy people with a degree chemistry.
And I'm not familiar with the way it's handled in the US. Over here you usually get a temporary position as lecturer, with a three years limit to complete your PhD work, which usually gives you ample time for research in and out of University while giving you a relatively nice income. Still managed to work part-time on my second job.
But then, I'm rather fast in terms of research and writing. Which is largely based on some natural talent for both and, more than that I suppose, tons of training in both disciplins, given that I needed to write a 15-20 page term paper for every single seminar I participated in, while skimming through about 5000+ pages of scientific literature and source-material every semester.
if not, why can you still debate 5 people at once and win?
😂
I doubt that has much to do with any kind of academic degree. By far most of my education is self-taught and spawned mostly from interest in certain things. University is just one place to put it to work and get some rewards for it. I read between 100 and 150 books per year out of pure joy or interest ranging from nonfiction (at the moment "Thinking, fast and slow" and "Freakonomics"😉 over contemporary (German) literature (currently "Der Hals der Giraffe"😉 to fantasy (currently "The Shepherd's Crown"😉.
So you could say I'm much more well-read than I am well-educated. 😉
You come back here what, three times every month?
That's what I call spamming. 😉

I'm surprised TJ hasn't come back to declare his support for Trump's reasonable policies.

TFN is good, why'd you stop?I mostly lurk in all the places. Little time or inclination to post extensively.
Sometimes I start to post more, sometimes I just lurk. But I never leave, at least not KMC.
Yeah? I might re-join. But it seems like everyone here posts in CV. Which one's more active?
