It was bad in the sense that it was rife with potholes, false dilemmas and plot contrivances. That does put it on the "poorly made" category as those are all symptoms of bad writing.I would actually say that the directing / Direction is probably the best part of the film. It is gorgeously shot, with some of the best looking scenes in the entire franchise. The acting wasn't horrible either outside of a couple characters.
Perhaps I was focusing too much on the production value, which was very good. The plot holes were asinine although we can hope some of them are going to be resolved in episode 9.
What bothered me the most beyond the obvious (.i.e. Luke's cowardice) are:
- The state of the galaxy is just set to the Galactic Civil War all over again
- Really lazy minor errors (was she really the first person to ever think of lightspeed ramming? Why didn't they do that before? Why do they have to physically drop bombs WW2 style in space? Why didn't the FO have more ships? Why didn't they just hyperspace in front of the Rebel fleet? etc.)
