I'm confused about the role of the second amendment in relation to the revolutions in the middle east. The resistance in Libya, for example, is "desperate for outside military assistance," according to BBC World News America. The director of the CIA (according to the same broadcast) has projected the current regime to survive, should such aid be withheld. Given how much more powerful the United States Military is than the Libyan military, does the posturing from second amendment advocates have any place in realistic discourse? If a popular revolt doesn't stand a chance against a two-bit third-world militia, would an American uprising do any better against the most powerful military force ever to exist?

I wonder if Americans who voted for Barack Obama feel like suckers yet.

Sarah Palin was the VP for the Republicans, yes?So, your choices were Obama or armed revolution, yes? 😄
[username: Event Horizon]Pretty much, and I don't own a weapon.

You're a terrible American. Don't you know that the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants?

The context of the quote makes it obvious to anyone with either an education or a working brain that, while the tree is allegoric, the blood is quite literal: What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure. Interesting side note: This was written by Jefferson in reference to Shays' Rebellion. This armed uprising was sparked by tax increases and foreclosures caused by the need to pay outstanding debts owned to financial investors. It will be interesting to see if history does indeed go in circles.
The whole exchange passed without my participation, and I'd be much too frightened to post there (these people are terrifyingly brilliant anarcho-commie-lazzie faire capitalist transhumanists) (well, except for Event Horizon) so I just lurk. Thoughts?
