You've only got yourself to blame. I've been telling you to watch it for years.

That is why I haven't watched it yet. Because you tell people to watch it...

I always expect some kind of anime gay random stuff.

Weeeeeell maybe you'll trust me in the future. Enough to do a google search at least!

And animes are so fanservice heavy anyway that its very odd to find a gay one. Soooo many boobs!

Also I am officially recommending you all watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, so you may all learn to trust my judgement even more! :33

Also read Homestuck.

I really wish you would stop talking about My Little Pony and Homestuck in the same posts. 😬

I hate this new generation. It has no taste in the quality of shows.

Seriously Kyle, what is your response to this? I mean, they are killing people on the other side of the world, because one man over here burned one Koran. If you youtube "Bible Burning" you get over 5000 videos, yet Christians aren't in the streets killing completely unrelated people, smashing windows and slashing tires in protest. In all seriousness, do you not see a difference? I get tired of the "all religions are the same kind of violence" spiel, because the results just don't match it. I'm not trying to be snide, I'm just seriously curious what kind of conclusion you make after reading about this kind of thing.

What did you expect? Also the Koran burning was stupid. I hate those types of christians, they give all religions a bad name.

of course. but 5000 bible burnings on youtube.

What the hell did the guy expet to happen if he burnt a Koran. I mean really. What a ****ing douche.

I think I'm one of the few people I've encountered who actually liked what that pastor did. The man lives in America where burning a Koran to protest or symbolize something isn't against the law. If some hypocritical douchebag, barbaric Muslims on the other side of the world get riled at that and kill people in the name of Allah over it, then f*cking let them.

Is the combination of rhetoric and rationalist too subtle? Should I start color coding what is and is not earnest?

Spoiler:
My assessment of his rhetorical abilities stands. Even though he wasn'tisn't always right
, he is the most politically gifted of our number.

You did see my suggestion, that it was a rather funny joke that nobody got? 😉

Spoiler:
I might agree with your accessment. But he can be glad that it's impossible for me to utilize my primary language here and I really don't have the nerves to write my posts in German in a text program, to translate them into English after that and then post the final result.

I disagree or rather I think you're confusing his actions with the symbolism that comes with a lack of consequences following the pastor's actions. Yes, we are all happy that in this country, we can do stupid shit like this and get away with it. But sometimes people use our laws and take it too far. Law and Order's Jack McCoy said it best. "The first amendment is used to persuade, not incite.

you cannot blame him for the death's of those peope though. If so, you are justifying a LOT of murderous shit in the name of religion. If I can say "I was incited to do it, therefore it is the inciter's fault, and not mine for being incited" Then I can basically do whatever I please.

You only use my name when you're particularly flustered. It's cute.

I'm just seriously curious what kind of conclusion you make after reading about this kind of thing.

When I read things like this my first conclusion is oh damn. I really don't want to get shot or exploded or hit by a jet plane.

Next I try to think of a reason why it is America's fault. It is usually not difficult to blame Regan, but sometimes you have to vilify some American Soldiers, too. 😛

Finally, and this is the important step, I try to incorporate the new information into what I already know about the world. That is to say, I re-affirm my model of psychology that predicts desperate actions from desperate people. I have explained that my view of the region attempts to include information about historical and economic factors that contribute to the virulence and violence of regional religions. Knowing that the tempering effects of Civilization have yet to be applied to Middle Eastern Islam, I wonder briefly if this is the issue that will consume the planet during my life.

Lately I've struggled to stay current with politics; having to act like a grown up means there are a lot of new obligations to juggle. So I've been less sanctimoniously outraged than I have been in the past. However, my spark is rekindling. I went to an ACLU fundraising dinner event (courtesy of Grandma) and the speaker (possibly the President of the Board?) had all kinds of horror stories to share. So if you want to talk to a rabid civil libertarian, I'll be trying to get my outrage generators back online over the next week or so.

P.S. I don't know if I've taken a position on the burning itself; I will do so here. Religious expression is protected speech, and in general I think people should be allowed to be as stupid as they please as loudly as they please. While it is unfortunate that this man was hateful enough to burn a symbol treasured by literally billions, he is not alone in the sentiment and certainly has been on the receiving end of such.

Spoiler:
My personal opinions and my opinion about others' opinions are not at all the same. As I said, the right to be an idiot without contrived consequences or censorship is an important one, and is part of what makes America great.

Spoiler:
The right to self-censor is also important; just because someone gets to be stupid doesn't mean I have to listen.

w8 wut?

If you hit me in the jaw with your fist, and in response I hit you in the jaw with my fist, then you incited a fight. However, I am responsible (morally, at the very least) for my fist.

I'm afraid that I truly do not understand your (and DS's) concept of blame.

You have said the thing 3 times about me using your name at certain times, but it hasn't been true any of those three times. I found this really interesting:

Next I try to think of a reason why it is America's fault. It is usually not difficult to blame Regan

seriously? You read a story about 11 UN workers being killed by a mob angry at a lone extremist on the other side of the globe, and you try to figure out why it is America's fault? I thought that was a joke, but it wasn't quite sarcastic enough for me to be sure.

If I incite you by insulting you, and you pull out a gun and shoot a stranger in protest, you can't blame me for the death of the stranger, and that is what saying this is Jone's fault is doing.
