As usual You thought wrong.

Clearly. 😂

I'm only reading it to annoy you.

So, let me get this straight: Your plan to annoy me, the guy who gets his jollies by getting under your skin, is by wasting your time subjecting yourself to an apologetic essay arguing in favor of something you hate?

About what?

You don't recall our many conversations, most of them on this thread I believe, concerning my criticisms of The Phantom Menace and the many, many ways it could have been done better? Did they mean so little to you? cry

You should link to your reworked prequels thing.

I'd hardly call this wasting my time. I havn't laughed this much since the last episode of My Little Pony aired.

So, aside from bugging Neph and enjoying the fact that you're one of the few among us who feels contrary to RLM, what is your opinion on TPM as a film?

Neph, try less hard.

Honestly, my opinion of TPM is the same as it's been for years: It was not the correct way to introduce prequels.

But many of Plinkett's criticisms, as evinced by Neph, are so thoroughly bewildering and ridiculous that I support Raynor's rebuttal, if not his conclusion that TPM was a great film.

I'll watch his TPM review again. Looking past his character, I'll try to spot points from a cinematic point of view that doesn't hold up.

TPM's pacing was horrible. Anakin needed to get to adulthood by that movie with the Separatist movement underway. That way, the Clone Wars and his fall could be depicted in two full movies.

You probably shouldn't waste your time unless you're willing to commit to the possibility that the prequels just might have more merit than what you believe.

The uncomfortable truth of people and their many biases is that, if you look hard enough, you'll always find what you're looking for.

And here I thought being biased was acceptable.

RLM didn't make me dislike the prequels. The prequels did. And while I could always discern what bugged me/annoyed me/pissed me off/bored me, RLM put it in to (surprisingly) eloquent words with a humorous take. I felt the same about the prequels after watching his reviews as I did before. Long before. I never had to look hard to find what I disliked about the PT. Which is sad.

Pretty much spot-on.

* Anakin should have been introduced as a young man in his late teens/early 20s, for a few reasons: (1) so the actor portraying him could be reasonably expected to convey the proper level of characterization and humanity; (2) so it would properly begin the symbolic mirroring of Anakin and Luke (who is introduced to the audience around the same age); (3) so the audience would be able to sympathize with him, as late adolescence and early adulthood is usually a time of trial and tribulation even when one is not surrounded by galactic warfare.

* Obi-Wan should be established as an ideal Jedi Knight whose past is not ideal: His dialogue with Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back indicates that he was once rebellious and unruly as well as Anakin. This would add a sense of common ground between Obi-Wan and Anakin, cementing their friendship in something fully developed. It would also lend credence to the idea that Obi-Wan could be a successful mentor; he's struggled with the same issues as Anakin and pulled through.

* Padme should not be a Senator or politician, because it makes absolutely zero sense for her to be in the action at all. Instead, make her a smuggler, bounty hunter, or ex-Republic operative. It would be a nice touch to make her a Separatist sympathizer, to ground Separatist concerns in reality and flesh out their point of view with the audience.

* Palpatine should remain pretty much exactly as-is, with no Darth Sidious persona. The guise of Sidious isn't charismatic; he would be unlikely to inspire loyalty in his underlings as a jerkass hologram. Instead, he communicates with Dooku and Dooku alone and doesn't bother with the cloaked charade.

* Dooku would be the principal villain of the films, the Darth Vader persona. Obviously Palpatine is behind it all and is the ultimate evil, but Dooku would be the guiding force of the Separatists until Palpatine reveals his endgame in the final film.

* Yoda is hardly present in the films. The OT never indicated that Yoda was the head honcho of the Order. Instead, Yoda is on a Force-inspired pilgrimage to the galaxy's backwater in an effort to ascertain the true nature of the Force and the Jedi's role in the galaxy.

* His influence is felt through the Jedi's interim leader, Mace Windu, who is a militant hard-liner and the embodiment of Yoda's failed warrior mentality. He represents the militant nature of the Jedi, the nature that ultimately fails to prepare them for the Sith's treachery, and inspires Yoda to try a different tact.

I've got loads of these.

The only one of the prequals I actually disliked is AotC.

These would be quite badass.

If one is biased and one wants to be a responsible logician, one should not only be honest about it, but make steps to fight it.

I was so thoroughly dissatisfied with the prequels that I've spent a shitton of time pondering and writing about their many flaws, typing countless thousands of words in an effort to restructure them coherently.

And yet I am able to agree with most of Raynor's rebuttal on principle and disagree with RLM, even though I do not like TPM as a film.

I think so, anyways.
The last of the failed attempt I had with people from KMC and TFN to rewrite the prequels was great in that it helped me generate and refine many great ideas.

I even started to publish it on Fanfiction.Net, but the story hasn't been updated in months and needs tremendous editing.

Do you still have that site where you were rewriting the prequels up and running?

Quick, post moar badass ideas before I crash and black out on my keyboard!

The site exists somewhere on ze web, but the project collapsed around the time Gideon was banned here. Work, college, and the girlfriend got the best of me.
