Mutants. Are they out there or just fairy tales?

Started by Akira994 pages

I doubt there are mutants out there very much. I could probably believe that there are some humans who have some terrible diseases e.g. the Elephant man - for some reason I can imagine that being real as the human reaction towards him
As much as I would fancy the idea of a government secrety creating super mutants e.g. diclonius in Elfen Lied or X-men or psychics [Akira anyone?] it seems a bit out of reach and if any had any kind of threat they would be wiped out pronto. But who knows maybe some country in this world who are planning to take over the world may have some horrific mutant breeding facility on some remote uninhabitied island

🤨 How is this philosophy related?

Becuase its a sad day when people think "mutants" mean X-men.

[b]Stanislawa Tomczyk. Born in Poland, Tomczyk came to the attention of investigators when it was reported that startling poltergeist-like activity occurred spontaneously around her. She could control some telekinetic feats, but only under hypnosis. In this hypnotic state, Tomczyk took on a personality that called itself "Little Stasia" who could levitate small objects when Tomczyk placed her hands on either side of them. In the early 1900s, one investigator, Julien Ochorowicz, watched these levitations at very close range and observed something like fine threads emanating from her palms and fingers, although they were examined carefully before the experiment. And it didn't seem to be a trick. "When the medium separates her hands," Ochorowicz observed, "the thread gets thinner and disappears; it gives the same sensation as a spider's web. If it is cut with scissors, its continuity is immediately restored." In 1910, Tomczyk was tested by a group of scientists at the Physical Laboratory in Warsaw where she produced remarkable physical phenomena under strict test conditions.

Nina Kulagina. One of the most celebrated and scrutinized psychics to claim psychokinetic powers was Nina Kulagina, a Russian woman who discovered her abilities while attempting to develop other psychic powers. Reportedly, she has demonstrated her powers by mentally moving a wide range of nonmagnetic objects, including matches, bread, large crystal bowls, clock pendulums, a cigar tube and a salt shaker among other things. Some of these demonstrations have been captured on film. The skeptics contend, of course, that her abilities would not stand up to scientific testing, and that she may be nothing more that a clever magician.

Uri Geller. Geller is one of the most well-known "psychics" who has publicly demonstrated feats of psychokinesis: spoon and key bending have become almost synonymous with Geller's name. Although many skeptics and magicians consider his metal-bending performances nothing more than adroit sleight-of-hand, Geller has allegedly shown that he can manifest the effects over great distances and in multiple locations. On a British radio show in 1973, after demonstrating key bending to the astonishment of the host, Geller invited the listening audience to participate. Just minutes later, phone calls began pouring into the radio station from listeners all over the UK reporting that knives, forks, spoons, keys and nails began to bend and twist spontaneously. Watches and clocks that had not run in years began to work. It was an event whose success surprised even Geller and thrust him into the spotlight

Hehe, that Nina Kulagina one just made me think of the movie, "The Frightners" 😆

Crap, at times I think I'm a mutant myself, managing to survive what I expose my body to on some weekends...

Scientifically speaking, mutants exist and mutation does happen.

A mutant (also known to early geneticists as a "monster"😉 is an individual, organism, or new genetic character arising or resulting from an instance of mutation, which is a sudden structural change within the DNA of a gene or chromosome of an organism resulting in the creation of a new character or trait not found in the parental type. In an organism or individual, the new character or trait may or may not be trivial, may occasionally be beneficial, but will usually result in either a genetic disorder or have no phenotypic effect whatsoever. The natural occurrence of genetic mutants is integral to the process of evolution.

Occasionally, a body cell in a healthy organism may acquire a mutation caused by a genetic error occurring during routine cell division. This is also known as a "somatic mutation." Such an error may result in cancer.

Naturally occurring animal mutants are often regarded as objects of curiosity. Examples:

rare blue lobsters
albinos of many species
animals with extra limbs

A well-known mutation in fruit flies causes the flies to have legs in place of antennas. An American aquarium even displays a remarkable "double mutant" snake that is both albino and has two heads.

Scientists often create mutant animals to study development and disease. This may involve the use of a random genetic screen, a specific 'gene knockout' or transgenesis (the transfer of genetic material from one organism to another). Among the most famous knockout mouse models is the obese, leptin-deficient, ob/ob mouse.

😂 I was really paying attention still i got the uri geller part .

I don't know much about the subject as respect to previous scientific data, but I do know that a book is out concerning whether or not someone like Bruce Banner could actually turn into the Hulk. The conclusive evidence is that scientifically as well as medically it is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!Now Hulk is not a mutant but he did undergoe a dramatic genetic transformation

Yes, they are. They live in the sewers.

Awwww c'mon! Marvel mutants? Well some like Beast, Logan or even Spider-Man might be possible but very unlikely. Mutants do exist, and there are lots of em, people with hair all over, people with extra somethings(limbs, eyes, organs etc.), people with really strong or weak muscles or bones etc.(you can see em all over, watch some Explorer or Discovery and you'll see em). But most mutations like laser eyes, shape shifting and stuff like that are impossible(or maybe a 1 in a bilion chance that it might be possible).
As for telekinessis and similar powers, I think are actually quite possible, too many claims for them not to be(I myself had mild magnetic "powers" when I was a kid, small metal things would stick to me). An all that bullshit about using 10% or 15% or 5%(has changed over the years apparently) of our brain is totally false, ~half of our brain is dedicated to the senses and emotions and stuff and the other half to memory, and the latter is the one that is used only in a small amount, kuz well we have to have room where to put all owr memoryes, also considering that most of our neurons die during the course of our lifetime.
Thanks for reading... The End🙂

In which we find that true mutants are too busy controlling their powers to go to grammar school.

Do any of you people wonder if your friends are mutants or family.I wonder if i ask would they think im crazy.I think mutants walk the earth but not like x-men or avengers.I don't have proof but I wold lie to know. Also I want shape shifting powers.

ugh, its like the past was only made such that it would produce a facepalm from me years later...

yes, to mutants.

random mutants in various individuals across the globe happen it's just majority of them are very harmful.

hair and skin pigmentation is a result of a genetic mutation.

added or missing chromosome not sure yet..mhmm

Why is this in the ****ing philosophy section?

because most people have no background in philosophy and think it means "any random question I might have"

though this one might fit, if barely, into natural philosophy... but that is a stretch

I think they are just fairly tales.
