physical/genetic abnormalities from the norm are just extremes of this, but not the least bit unnatural.
as for comic mutations sort of being represented in the real world, i can remember a few: aquatic, mermaid mutation sirenomelia is a sort of abdominal fusion that renders the individual with a single "whale/dolphin/seal tail", among other life threatening organ abnormalities; the rapid bone growth of the x-men mutant called "marrow", Osteogenesis. muscle tissues rapidly convert into bone instead of new, additional muscle fibers locking the body into a bony statue....i can't think of more atm 😄
