People are different. Maturity and age are not mutually inclusive when relating to consent. A 12 year old should not be subjectively thought of as an immature child, anymore than an 8 year old should be characterized as a mature adult.

As the law stands now, any male who engages in consensual intercourse with either is considered a pedophile in western societies. How is it logical to incriminate a man as a rapist, when consent was present during the sexual encounter with the 8 year old?

The laws are not fair or logical Rob, and they need to be changed to reflect the inherent differences between "consent" and "rape", particularly when a man engages in intercourse with those considered minors.

Um, wrong, we're dealing with children here. I could care less what two adults decide to do with each other, but there are reasons why laws differentiate between adults and minors. Also, parents do decide as a responsible parents (and/or guardian) what is right and wrong for their children. You should really educate yourself on parent/child dynamics.

I agree 100%. I am surprised by how many people think it's alright and fair for a 54 year old to have a sexual relation with a damn 8 year old. A child's consent is not a fully developed consent, no matter how you put it. Atleast a willing 16 year old has enough knowledge about Sex to handle such a thing. But an 8 year old?
