It was never once stated that both robots were needed to destroy the planet, only the second one. Superman only asked about the second one, and Cyborg only talked about the second one.

Superman grabbed it, flew it into space (you can see the trail behind it), and then flew back (you can see him flying back in the Auctioneer's viewscreen).
