No GLs were helping him at that particular time. Not to mention you yourself said that a blast can't blow up a planet unless it's stated.

Superman, unlike DBZ characters, lives in a universe that follows some form of logic, so he can't just go around blowing up planets, if Supes blew up the moon, to show how "powerful" he is, it would have terrible effects on the earth. You see, Supes doesn't have a retarded plot devise such as the Dragon Balls, that serve as an instant redo card
