The Way The World Ends

anyone have a clue an idea of what might happen?

Uh ... our sun will turn into a red giant, swelling out and consuming Earth. Then, it will collapse into a white dwarf, and whatever charred remains of Earth still exist will be frozen.

nah i dont think so =\ that wont happen till a few million years... i was thinking of a hydro fusion nuclear bomb a man made bio weapon... or a big natural disaster like... a comet hitting the earth or shattering the moon leaving us moonless and pretty much screwed

i agree with the first, except there will be nothing left of the earth as it's mass is consumed by the red giant sun as it begins to fuse heavy elements.

As for life suviving...it's survived atmospheric holocausts, snowball earths, planetoid impacts, and polar shifts. There'll be life on this planet till it's atomized by the sun. Plus if our current rate of technological developement persists, we'll have FTL travel within forty years and whatever the hell we evolve into should be quite safe along with any other terran life they save.

While a comet could cause problems popular theory suggests the earth has already handled plenty of impacts. In all likely hood the earth will remain in existence until the sun goes billions of years from now - and no nuclear weapon or bioweapon is going to change that.

I guess you question refers more to the end of humanity - a far more fragile aspect that could be destroyed by many things. Still, the world would most likely continue to tick along nicely without man, so it would hardly be the end of the world. And while something like a nuclear holocaust might cause a fair bit of damage to life upon it, it would eventually recover, and life would continue.

I don't believe that planet will end, only the possibly the humans,........but still I'm sure there will always be a survivor or two... 😍 😍

apart from the aformentioned solar event...i think the only other way the earth would be destroyed would be through some gravitational or massive volcanic anomaly causing the earths crust to break irrepairably

as for what would cause this i haven't the slightest idea...

The Ark is activated and the galaxy is swept clean of all sentient life.

Realistically? I'd say the death of our sun, if we haven't blown ourselves up in a nuclear war or if some crazy-ass aliens don't glass the planet first. Global warming's an issue as well.

lmao dark c 😛

meanwhile jaden yea ive heard about what would happen with the sun on 2012 ='( and i fear for everyones lives...

and also the dam volcano in wyoming will pretty much destroy the us ='(

You mean Mount St. Helen, the US........cry

Curse You Mount Saint Helen!

In an unimaginably distant future, when protons have decayed and the long-gone era of stars and galaxies will be viewed, fondly, as the warm afterglow of the Big Bang, all that will be left are giant evaporating black holes around which any remaining vestiges of disembodied consciousness will huddle.

The Sun expands ending all life on Earth. Then it shrinks leaving the Earth cold and lifeless.

Does anyone, other than me, believe that once humans acquire ftl tech and strike out into space, we will become the cockroaches of the universe?

I could agree on that one.

That or aliens swoop down onto earth and use us all for personal experimentation. (Just kidding.)

Only if the universe is flat. 😉

glass the planet first.

You play too much Halo 😛

I figure everything has some purpose in the place where it exists. We mine diamonds, we suck oil and natural gas out of the earth, we burn many things that would otherwise probably never burned on the surface, we through our actions combine various things that would not have otherwise combined. I figure that the earth will stop working the way it has been, something we are doing will eventually cause a major issue that we are unable to see because we haven't reached a critical point in whatever causes it, the earth will die.
