Everybody manages to hit Surfer. Even Spider-Man held his own against Surfer for a good while (though in the end he lost of course).
Its the whole popularity thing that will make marvel pretty inconsistent with there powerful people. Its hard when the fanfavorite is a street leveler and hes battling a guy that destroys planets on a whim. Thats why Surfer will always look good against strongs foes but will look less powerful around the likes of Spiderman,Wolverine etc

Thanos also has a huge jobber aura you know. Smart, cunning, experienced and fast characters suddenly become brainless brawlers when fighting Thanos.
Powerful characters often "forget" thier best techniques and most powerful attacks when they shouldent 😆 Love them marvel writers 😱
