Reed didn't know Dormammu was trying to put himself back together - he couldn't know that - but Strange, who is of course a million times more clever when talking about magic, suspected a trap and warned Richards (too late).
Richards is one of THE smartest people on Earth. Magic however isn't his forte. I really don't see how this increases Jokers chances. Not that he has chances.
