Excellent
I doubt it. Batman is a modern bankable franchise, much more so than is Superman. As I have always said in regards to Superman, he might be the archetype on which all other super-characters are based, but he involves nothing of appeal or significance. Bottom line: Superman is un-interesting and boring. Perhaps it all comes down to that old comic book adage that a hero is only as redeemable as his least villain. Well, that means Batman is the far better bet. Superman suffers from the same faulty logic that plauges He-Man or Duke or Richie Rich or Archie. He's just not appealing enough (especially considered along side of the unexpected singer-debacle of Returns) Superman suffers from comic stereotyps, as does his villains. This is an enevitable side effect of his position as the origin of modern comics. But it is a side-effect that Batman doesn't seem to suffer. Batman is truely an originator in the realm of comic anti-heroes, but neiter he or his rouges gallery has suffered the same effects of the Superman mythology. There is no doubt that Lex Luthor is iconic, but there is also no doubt that The Joker has far supplanted him of such a status. The first villain to "come back" from a comic death, the first character to be portrayed as an elightened observer of actual reality. This is not matched in comicdom. It was ,and can only be, that the Joker was the first villain to offer outside commentary on a situation unfolding in a comic in which he, himself, was appearing. In terms of comicdom, he is one of the very few handful of charcters that have ever been written to realize he was a comic book character. This places him above Batman himself, Superman, Captain America, the X-Men and Spider-Man (read: the canon of mainstream comic characters) The Joker is unique in regards to comic book villains as well as comic characters, over all. He was one of the first to return form whatt has become a less-than-certain death, and he remains the most iconic vilain in comic book history. And it all started from an accident of genius displayed by Mr. Kane and Mr. Robinson.
Hmm...that's weird.

Lovely poster
AND I noticed something and I am curious about other peoples opinions. In the New Dark Knight trailer, after Harvey asks Alfred if there are any psychotic ex boyfriends he should be aware of, batman lands on the car hood crushing the hood....Look at who is Driving. You can frame by frame the image if you have quicktime, and Hi-def is prefered. But it looks like the Scarecrow is in the drivers seat.
