Well that was an attempted modernisation of a character almost every classic hero has had them so why should it be different for superman?

Not really i mean superman was made unstoppable when he first came out that was clear but then people didn't like that so they took his powers down i am sure your aware of the whole pre and post situation. The only reason the holding back factor kicks into place for supes is because his supposed to be the strongest . And i doubt that even if supes unleashed his full power or sundipped he would stalemate Galactus now that is just to far fetched.
Not really, orginally he was not that powerful but the writers kept adding on until the precrisis levels we know about became to much of a problem to write him in stories. Him holding back can be seen with the first fight with doomsday. Things like Soul vision, and Tvo are powers that seem to come out of no where. Recently batdude just posted that whe he becomes stressed, he absorbs more solar radiation and becomes stronger, when did this happen? Like I was saying earlier, they both are a victim of the same syndrome.

You make good points and it would be extremly bias of me to keep undermining your statement but i have to say that i disagree with your last statement you see with supes no matter how strog he gets there are people that will squat him like a fly. Then theres Sentry it seems the writers keep rasing him seeing how far the readers will accept his level of strenght the biggest chance they took was having the statement that he stalemated galactus i mean for fu.. sake

Very true perhaps with the Return of Thor they might actually decide to place Sentry in the hierarchy of things or in the worst case scenario he does to Thor what he did to Ironman. And perhaps thats when the problem will start but i doubt they will do that at least i hope they wont.

Wrong, Superman started out only being able to lift a car, run as fast as a train, leap tall buildings, etc. He was nowhere near "unstoppable", sorry but he wasn't.

Your pathetic your bringing an argument from another thread into this, And if you ask must people who they define as classic superman they would most likely reply Pre crisis i meant a supes that was clearly outlined as opposed to still getting upgrades.
