I'll answer this yet again. Gay marriage should NOT be legal, but then no marriage should be legal. If a person, any person, wants to consider themselves married, or they want their religion to recognize them as married, then fine.
But there should be no legal or economic benifits for anyone being married, it discriminates against single people.
Technicalyl this is correct, but one benefit is that if people file jointly, the government has to do less auditing etc because less returns are filed. They feel offering an incentive for that is justified.
I also think, socially, humans work better in groups. We are social beings. Humans need social networks, marriages are one of many ways to do this. Also, its easieer to rasie children on two merged incomes rather than one.

You do not need to be married to raise children with two incomes. Nor does a piece of paper stating you are married form a stronger social bond. It only creats legal benifits, and legal entanglements, if and when the marriage ends.

This is correct, but I think having those things is easier. I have a tremendous amount of respect for single parents, Its an incredibly difficult job and there is NOTHING wrong with it. Its just easier if its spread among two (or theoretically more) people.

You seemed so afraid to make such a bold statement about your sexuality when no one questioned it. I have a gay sig, that doesnt mean I'm gay. No one cares.

You don't sign a government document. There are no legal changes as a result of your marriage.

No, what I mean is, you do not need a marriage contract to form a cohesive family unit. Both parents can live together and mutually raise the children as well as have legal responsibilities towards those children. There is no doubt children have a better upbringing with both parents present. Said parents don't have to be legally married though.
