I have seen this many times.

Person 1. Who may or may not be right simply gives up or puts the other person on ignore and says that they(as in person 1) won and there is no need to continue.

Person 2. Who may or may not be right tries to show that the other person is wrong and thinks him or herself victorious when person 1 gives up and/or puts person 2 on ignore.

At the point person 1 gives up and puts person 2 on ignore, IMO, person 2 won......unless person 2 was just ridiculously an idiot and was being stupid about the argument (Such as, "because I said so", or "I don't have to provide proof"...etc.)

Flaming is not really part of the debate. If one of the people asks the other to stop flaming them, and the other person doesn't, then using the ignore feture is justified....I wasn't referring to that situation though. I was referring to the fact that "person 1" says they won BECAUSE they put the other person on ignore and say person 2 is an idiot...not because they won.

To be honest, I have only seen the situation I am describing on this place once. I have seen a lot more times at other places.

no point in arguing him. he jumps into a thread and member bashes, spewing insult after insult, calls me a "sniffling pussy" and beats his chest. when called on it, cue the clown routine of "i was just joking" as well as reversal of blame, as we see here as well. best to just ignore him since he's clearly got some sort of chemical imbalance and is apparently refusing his medication.

User your logic...how often do you see me throw insults out there? how often is it only intended as humor? Have you ever seen me let someone know that I was serious and/or joking? Exactly...I am sorry you are sore over our little tiff...but my insults WERE meant as humor...not actual insults.

this happens in the more fierce debates. rather than see a debate as a collection of many ideas, both intelligent and downright stupid, some view it as a line in the sand. you are with them (intelligent) or against them (retarded). these people are usually scorned and angered by other members forcing them into a type of primitive herding instinct. anyone on their side is supported and unconditionally agreed with, regardless of their statements, while anyone on the opposition is viciously cut down, regardless of their statements.
