why so many Gods?

Why are there so many Gods? every religion ahs a differant God. why is that? im not trying to start any troble or any thing i was jsut wondering why most religius people never think "hmm so amny gods, but all of theme are the same one just, every religion has a differant name." any one els think that that could be it?

Different cultures invent different gods to suit their needs

true, but in a way dont you think that all the gods are realy just one just that with every ones diff. belefs and ivents they do is all realy just for 1 God?

I'm sure some religions get ideas from others. Christians and muslims are branches of the jewish religion

yea true

This is a great question. A lot of archaelogical points to the idea that at the dawn of mankind, all mankind worshipped one god all around the world. I find this very interesting. I believe it is the God of the Bible, others do not. At the root of all religions there is the same one truth because we all descended from the first humans who likely had a better knowledge of the truth than us. However, humanity split into tribes and eventually nations. The truth was lost to most of these people and people began to worship whatever seemed relevant to them and their culture (sun gods, gods of precious gems, etc.).

Gods, in ancient times, are symbols of forces of nature and therefore have different names and symbolic expressions.... Religion start out of prayers in heaven... In Buddhism, " The Way is not Heaven, it is from the Heart"

God's represent concepts, natural events, celestial body's and emotions.

im trust trying to figure out why alot of contrys are having wars over there religions and stuff like that, i dont understand why they dont just think "hmm why are we killing you if killing is aginst our religion?"

Sometimes killing is necessary part of human existence. The necessity is what separates killing from murder. Killing can be self-defence or be from the aggressor. The God of the Bible would certainly never condemn soldiers who KILLED Nazis while fighting to stop Hitler from MURDERING Jews. Some conflicts arise because their religion entitles them to certain things (example: Jews believe they are entitled to Israel) and defending that right is not murder in their eyes. Other religions teach that other religions should not be allowed to 'corrupt' them by close affiliation (Muslims and Jews). It is understandably very complex and difficult to understand everything that motivates these wars. However, I believe that the root of these evils is hate. Hate blinds them to the fact that perhaps their wars are meaningless, futile, and/or unnecessary.

And true to form, human egotism often causes people to invent gods who are depicted to look like them racially and culturally.

Through the course of human history, polytheistic religions of one sort or another have been a dominant majority by far. Each individual god represented a unique value, personified some aspect of humanity, and/or maintained stewardship over some facet of nature.

Maybe 1000 years from now we will worship a god that looks like superman

A god for every day of the week.

As to modern times - depends what religion. The is only one Christian God, but there are many types of Christians. That is a question of doctrinal differences. They all essentially believe in the same thing, they just all believe in approaching it differently and thus it seems like there are many Gods.

Same with Islam, and to a lesser extent Judaism.

Buddhism is a different kind of belief when it comes to God/gods.

Hinduism has a huge pantheon, and they are mostly representational gods representing aspects of the natural world and/or human concepts (similar to many ancient religions)

Neo-pagan has a tendency to come up as a re imagining of traditional pagan religions of old, while mysticism, crystal worship and so on differ again.

I tend to relate the 'different gods" to eating.

Spoons, Forks, chopsticks, fingers, folded leaf. All are different ways of getting food to our mouth, but in the end we still eat. IT depends on the culture or how the people are used to eating or how they devised it. Same goes for religion and the appearance of god.

The concept of what God is, is still a result of human imagination. SO it will be different all the time.

Why not?

Yes. Despite "evidence" that is apparently to the contrary, mot religons arose during a period of human history where they simply explained natural phenomena.

Many cultures used this to their advantage. The Romans (with an incredibly large pantheisitc empire, welcomed any god to ther ranks (later, it was added that all worshippers must also worship the imperial cult). Gods were combined. Kind of like "oh...Apollo and Ra are basically the same thing" so the "Ra-Apollo" cult was started.
