Goku's not a ripoff of Superman, he's the heart and soul of why DBZ was so successful. The longest running, and greatest anime/Manga of all time.
Why do people like DBZ so much?
People liking it more so, but it's not that simple, people love power, they are obsessed with strength, and the outer limits of possibility, America was formed on strength, the strength of the people, the strength of freedom, ever since the beginning of civilization the stronger man was the more heroic man. And in DBZ, it's all about strength, no other anime character has the strength to put up with training under increasing G's, constantly fighting for the possibility of reason, which not all DBZ characters do, not even Gohan does it, but Goku, he's the man, the strength behind the show, because you know, what ever happens, Goku can take it, Goku can take anything. He is the heart and soul of DBZ. (Metaphorically speaking)

Wrong the longest running manga's are:
3. Hajime no Ippo - Weekly Shounen Magazine - 1989 to *still running* - 740+ chapters
2. Doraemon - Various magazines - 1973 to *still running, however not continuously* - 1344 chapters
1. Kochikame (Full Name: Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari KÅen Mae Hashutsujo) - Weekly Shounen Jump - 1976 to *still running* - 1400+ chapters
Manga such as Bastard and Guyver are both longer running, having being going for 20 and 23 years respectively.
While Dragonball is the best selling manga shonen jump has put out. Given a few years one piece will overtake it. (Given it's apparently only half way through and only 35,000 sales behind DB)
Though Dragonballs popularity is on the wain in Japan, it is scoring lower and lower on opinion poles. Being soundly beaten by Gundam and full metal alchemist in a 2005 poll in 2006 it was bumped down to 12th. Which is fair enough as they are both made by superior animation studios and are aimed at an older audience.

They fact that he has soo much things in common with a very succesful character doesn't change your opinion? It's funny, but you do sound like a kid who would say DBZ can destroy Universe in one hit...blah blah blah.
Superman's a ripoff of Popeye The Sailor Man.
Superman's a ripoff of Popeye The Sailor Man.
All they have in common is super strength, a concept that predates both characters by Superstrength.
I'm not of the opinion that Goku is a rip off. There is no originality in fiction anymore, its not possible. Most of the concepts that make Dragon Ball Z popular had been done before, even including characters who have the ability to destroy whole planets.
You have to admit Goku shares many similarities Superman especially being an alien from a dead world. That's the most iconic piece of Superman's origin, which means Goku is in part of homage to Superman along with Son Wu Kong.
That doesn't make Superman original, he takes inspiration from the novel Gladiator, the golem and ancient myth. However he is still one of the most recognised and iconic fictional characters in existent, from which all super heroes are based in one way or another.
