Abbra drew one sharp breath after another; breathing was such a job now. She hobbled awkwardly, attempting to put as little pressure ass possible on her left leg which was searing in pain. She also sported an odd look on her face, a stiff an emotionless front to mask the hideous distortion of agony. But Abbra didn’t allow herself to cry when others were left in worse states.
Her hand was pressed against her right eye also, sheltering the sliced and bleeding eyebrow. The unpleasant atmosphere seemed to cover the surrounding one hundred yards like a thick fog. With her one free eye, she searched through the masses of children from her friends. There would probably be masses of people waiting for somebody to tend to their wounds.
She had taken up the rear for her team; not by will but due to fact that she alone had a hurt leg. But at least she was safe now, and she was sure they wouldn’t send them on another mission like this for some time. How could they? There was such a cost to throwing them into a situation such as this. A whimper escaped her lips and a boy brushed her leg with his own while walking. Ok, scratch the friends, she wanted medical attention.
"Is he dead?"
"Yes."
The two voices, hushed needlessy, echoed in the dark, in fact near lightless room onboard the UNSC Subtelty. The only light was the greenish glow being emmited from the smaller version of the statis chamber Axel had previously inhabited. For now, Axel's flash cloned body floated lifelessy within what had been his home for the past several years. Axel himself floated lifelessy within this tube.
"Then what's the point of taking him?"
"Don't know. All I know is his heart's stopped, and there's almost no brain activity, but Col. Ackerson wanted him up at Starfire so we are taking him there. Plus, Core is involved, so we do what we are told or we'll end up erased."
"What about-"
"Yi is trouble. So is the Lieutenant who keeps popping up. God he's everywhere we go. He's in something deep. Whatever the matter, I hope he dosen't contact Yi. If they work together we're ****ed. She'll notice something about him right off, I doubt he'll try to hide it. He's worked with her before, and everyone who works with her that's like him, ends up liking her type. See what I mean?"
"No not really. Did the Chief know what was going on?"
"..."
Blue Team saluted as the last Spartans boarded the evac vehicle and the door began to close. As soon as the door slammed shut, Yi said "Double check your integrity and let's do it the way we planned."
They attached short, relatively thick EVA lines to the rear of the craft and to themselves, and tightened themselves against the back of the vehicle as it began to move out of the hangar. The two rebel prisoners had been packed into air-tight crates with breathing apparatus previously. Thankfully, Blue Team had managed to retain the air-tightness of their suits, which could supply nearly an hour's worth of air if the occupant didn't exert him or herself substantially. They had worked out a plan on the way to the hangar: latch on to the Spartan's Pelican and hitch a ride until they were clear of the Choragus' sensor range and their own Evac craft could pick them up. As far as the Choragus was concerned, they had never come aboard or left.
Banken's fingers began to type on a virtual keyboard just after he attached himself, and he quickly hacked the Pelican's communications system, using it to communicate with a computer on Reach. He began investigating the tag numbers he had collected from the Spartans. Twenty minutes later, his fingers stopped moving and he opened a line to Yi via single-beam laser.
"I found a few things. They're as young as they look, for one thing. Ackerson is involved in this S-III project, too. And the rest gets even scarier--I'll show it to you once we're headed home."
"I knew something was wrong before we even started. It's about time we let go, so get ready." she replied.
"Give me five minutes to make sure my tracks are covered. And--we have another tracker left, since we only used one on the rebel's ship. Shall I?" Banken asked.
"Perfect idea."
Five minutes later, Blue Team was drifting in space, and ten minutes after that, another Pelican arrived and took them aboard, toward a Prowler just outside the Epsilon Eridani system.
((lol, the Spartans have boarded the Evac craft. My post tells what my characters did as it traveled back to Reach, but I purposefully left any Spartan actions out so you all can post what you did during that time if you want. Blue Team is out of the RP for the moment, unless plot developments bring them back in.))
(im not reading that either 😑 its a freckin paragraph man look at it... oh well 😬)
"That... w-was loads of fun."
Wise continued to be shooken up over the entire ordeal.... him almost dying 4 times... teamate dying in front of him... their leader almost dying... Rayden missing part of his fro... this had to be the worse day ever so far besides the time where he fell down with the lunch tray he had which hit one of the trainers and caused an erupting food fight.
[]lol okay well I guess we're back at Reach then.[]
Raevynn strolled groggily into the cafeteria. Various techs and medics had just finished running a number of irritating tests on her despite the fact she was in no way injured from the battle. They had insisted that every one of her Spartans be assessed. She couldn't help but feel like they were checking for something more than bruises.
The squad leader skipped the food and instead settled for a bottle of water. She sat alone at a large empty table and stared off into the floor, deep in thought. The medics had ordered her to get some bed rest, but the fatigued twelve year old just didn't feel like sleeping at a time like this. Today she lost brothers, and they would never come back.
Abbra hobbled into the cafeteria, shooting pains still crawled up her leg, but medication lulled it into a dull throbbing. The price of such a luxery was remaining in an almost zombie like state/
"Hey." She muttered, the ends of her lips curving into a forced smile. Abbra didn't feel like smiling but she hoped the friendly gesture would be appreciated. Her hair hung infront of her face, hiding the stiches. Which she was rather embarassed of; stiches rather replused her along with the idea of sewing skin together. But it was all they could do for such a wide, shallow cut.
"I think the tests took a-alot out of me." She muttered and heaved a chuckle. Her eyes fluttering over to her friend. "What about you?" She asked trying to avoid bring up the loss of a team mate. It might be impossible to take her mind off of it, but she didn't exactly need to provoke the memory.
Raevynn's eye's locked onto Abbras in an almost defensive sort of way. Her head didn't move an inch it was drooping slightly as if it was too heavy for her neck. As Abbra started up a small conversation, She suddenly realised how rude she must have looked, and stiffened up a bit. Once her posture had been corrected, she noticed the girls hair hiding a few nasty cuts.
"Oh im fine." She answered in a dull voice. "Better than most. I just wish I could have been a little faster. Maybe even smarter too. Some of us barely managed to scrape through that mission."
Raevynn looked over the girl that had been a sister to her for these past six years. She was battered and bruised, but still managed to keep her high spirit. "Do you think you're going to be alright?"
Abbra shifted in her seat uncomfortably, thinking Raevynn wasn’t about to utter a word, so she was slightly surprised when she began talking. Clearing her voice she turned her head to look at her. “Don’t we all wish we were a little smarter?” She asked with a definite grin, “But that’s why Axel’s here…” She trailed off remembering the boy who could have possibly been her best friend. But she hadn’t seen him in some time and a pang of heartbreak proved to be a bitter shock as she remembered him.
“Hell yes we’re going to be alright, a few of us might be sore for a few days. But we’ll ***** about it and end up perfectly fine. So what if there’s a few scars?” She asked and placed her hand on Ray’s shoulder. “Right?”
Raevynn looked up at the girl with a very serious face at the mention of Axel. She remembered how Abbra and Axel got along very well. Unfortunately, Axel was among one of the few reasons that Raevynn was having difficulty maintaining her often positive stride. Mendez had come straight to Raevynn when she first arrived home. He knew she wanted to know everyone of her Spartan's status. And Abbra had the right to know too.
"You know Abbra, You're right." She sighed. "But not everyone gets better." Raevynn ran a hand through her long dark hair. She wasn't quite sure how to tell Abbra. Infact she wasn't quite sure if she believed it herself. "Mendez told me that Axel's gone." She finished in one short breath.
Abbra tilted her head and studied Raevynn’s expression, and not exactly fond of it. Her stomach seemed to twist itself into a knot leaving a less than pleasant sensation. Her teeth also found its way to the neighboring bottom lip and began gnawing from stress. But what came next, she was glad she was sitting down. “W- What?” She asked, tears bubbling to the surface. Her top lips quivered. A part of her chose to believe her friend was joking. Or lying, but the grim reality seemed too hard to bare.
“What?” She asked again, her voice seemed so frail it was about to break.
Jacob awoke from his long backout to find himself alone in a Hospital bed the lights turned out total drakness with only the light from the medical equipment and monitors. Jacob spent what seemed like forever going over the events on the mission. The brorthers and sisters he lost and the ones whose fates he did not know. For the first time in a long time Jacob actually let tears run down his cheeks. Axel had been gone for awhile but this was different. This wasn't an accident that was doing of a higher power this was the carnage of war.
Jacob had trouble breathing in as his emtions stirred a little more. He beguin to cough into his hands. Afterwards he could see drops of blodd staining his palms. Jacob decided to do the only thing he knew how to. Hoping out of bed with great pain he kneeled at the side on his knees and taking as deep a breath as he could began to pray.
"Lord watch over us who need the most help whether it be from injuries or whatever horros we have. Please Lord take care of all our fallen brethren for I know they are in your grace."
With that Jacob collapsed at the side of his bed fainting from the pain as nurses rushed in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day Jacob was walking into the cafeteria. He was in constant pain. The doctors had said he had cracked a rib and brsuied a few others as well as bruising most of his abdomen. He had some minor internal bleeding but even though he was in great pain the doctors let him walk around as he wasn't in serious risk.
He saw two girls sitting at a table. He walked a little closer his vision was still blurry from the medicine but he quickly noticed it was Abbra and Raevynn. He shot a quick glance ocer their direction and finally sat down at far end of the table they were at. He shot another glance over and quickly turned back to his tray.
Jacob knew Rae would be taking this very hard. He wanted to say something but words and talking never came easy for him especially around her. He knew she would be placing everything that went wrong on her shoulders. Jacob had no words he could give her besides that of his faith and Jacob felt she didn't believe in what he did and probably in nothing that she couldn't see.
He picked up some bread and tearing it in two begin to place some in his mouth but before he could he begin to cough violently again. Taking his hand from his mouth he noticed some more blodd he quickly wiped it off so no one could see it. Then he bit into his bread and swalloed which was one of the more painful expreinces in his life.
