Axel waited, eyes on the wall behind Spartan 116. His jaw flexed slightly out of nervousness. After Raevynn has finally answered, he slowly let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. Mostly successful at hiding a very faint smile at her response, his eyes returned to her, though the unbound movement of the implant within caused an unsettling appearance. “No sarcasm Rae…” He said, this time the cold tone creeped out of his voice. “I always try to mean what I say, whether it’s pleasant or not.”
He took a step forward and reached out with both hands, moving as to appear unthreatening. Gently, he let his fingertips trace over the composition of her face. His expression changed slightly, betraying the concentration in what should have been such a simple task. It looked like he was trying to hide another smile, but he masked it with what appeared to be experienced skill. “Sorry…” He said. “I know this must seem strange to you but it’s the only way I can learn the finer details of someone’s appearance.”
Steadily, he formed an image of what she looked like in his mind, interpreting a sense of touch into the as of yet still powerful sense of sight. He stopped after a moment, and took a step back. He did know how tall she was, and what the uniform she wore look like. “No sarcasm.” He said, shaking his head. “You look nice.”
There was a short pause. Time to answer her question. “I came to talk about us.” He said, most of his strict tone returning. “Myself, and the Spartan IIIs. Considering your position, and the limited time I have, I felt you were the person I should talk to.” He stepped back and to the side, standing with his back parallel to the wall allowing her to pass. “If you don’t want to, and would prefer to choose not to… I can understand.”
