Creation vs Evolution

CS: Well, when I talk to religious leaders, one thing I always ask them is: What would you do if a fundamental tenet of your religion was definitively disproved by science? And, at least in the West, and especially among fundamentalist religions, the tendency is to say, "Science couldn't possibly," or, "My religion is an absolute truth, and if science gets different answers, too bad for science." The Dalai Lama's answer was: "If science found a serious error in Tibetan Buddhism, of course we would change Tibetan Buddhism." So I tried to push him on this issue. Suppose it was something basic? Suppose, for instance, it was reincarnation? And the Dalai Lama said to me, "If science can disprove reincarnation, Tibetan Buddhism would abandon reincarnation." And then he said, "But it's going to be mighty hard to disprove reincarnation."

I'm unfortunately unfamiliar with him. I picked up a couple of his audio books and interviews, but he was a little before my time 🙁

He was wonderful though. Very few people have done for the popularization of science what he did.

He made it fun and easy for the common man to understand some of the wilder things in science, he started my big interest in space.

Just found this funny 😄

Pale Blue Dot was marvelous. You can tell he really got off on what he was discovering and talking about

Sad thing, that comic is 100% accurate.

See, the way I see it. You enjoy sitting here and going on about how evolution is correct purely because it doesn't (to you) offer anything against Buddhism, (I have a friend who is a Buddhist now as it happens) but this siding with evolutionists will lead to the downfall of your own faith.

Interesting, but I know that things change over time, and I know that what we call species is not real. I think evolution is correct, but I have my own spin on it. PM me some time and I will talk to you about it.

You know, it's odd that proponents of scientific theory, which has formed the theory of evolution, have resorted to lying in order to support their conclusion.

Then you're dumb and ignorant. Same for believing in reincarnation, you anti-science fundamentalist.

Which lies exactly are still being pushed? One thing you can say about science, if someone passes faulty material and it is exposed, the science community admits the dupe.

Yet in the bible, people were raised from the dead, go figure.

FALSE.

I agree. Did you know that there is a theory that Jesus spent time with Buddhists in Egypt...hence the similarities between the Sermon on the Mount and Buddhist tenants...

"Theory" meaning total crock?

The Dalai Lama also will falsely use science and pseudoscience to support his arbitary faith.

I'm no fan of the Dalai Lama, I think he is a tyrant without a throne.

It was meant to show that Buddhist teachings CAN embrace science without fear of being "debunked".

😂 I've never heard him caled a tyrant before.

Yes, that is true. I was just pointing out that the "Buddhist" conception (as judged by the Dalai Lama's narrow authority over Buddhism) is not a wholly desirable solution.
