Personally I'm more of a dog person than a cat person (years ago it was the other way around) but I will definitely be getting another cat when I'm living on my own and can afford one.

And speaking for cats sticking up for themselves, for some reason my cat never really got along with other cats at all. I'd lie in bed at night and hear cats hissing and screaming at each other and she'd always have other cats trying to pick fights with her. She had a lot of scars to prove it.
