Who here donates blood?

I signed up for the blood drive next week at school. My appointment is in the main gym at 9.15 AM next Thursday. I'm kind of scared to do it not really for the pain (a little bit though), but the fact that they're going to take a whole pint of blood. I've only had like a little bit of blood drawn before and that was for blood testing. A lot of people who have previously done it here have passed out and I'm small so I probably will too.

I tried in high school, but they could only get half the quota out of one arm so they drained the other one and took over an hour. Then, I thought it was a fluke so I tried it again a few years later. Same result. So that would be a permenant "no" from now on.

Not so strange. I had a friend who first time he tried they had trouble getting it out, then he fainted and vomited. Same thing happened next time. The process seems to adversely affect some people physically.

At one time I was too light weight to give....I think you must a certain weight.

They also check your iron levels, heart rate etc...

I give blood well apparently, I haven't bruised, and it was very quick. The warmer you are the quicker the blood will flow out.

I don't and have no intention to. I just don't like the idea of being drained of a bunch of blood.

It's only around 600ml, I believe, it's hardly going to kill you, and it saves lives. Don't forget that you might need blood someday, and that donor was 'drained of a bunch of blood' to save your life, so IMO, the least people can do is give something back.

I don't donate, but have always wanted to, but unfortunatly, you have to over a certain weight, and I am about one kilogram too light.

That's true. That's when I found out my iron was down. I thought ooooooo what a pretty color red.....They said Ummm it's not supposed to be that color....... 🙁

Yeah they prick your finger first to check all of that and if you're good to go then they'll draw the blood. 😬
Thursday draws nearer for me.

What you need is to eat more spinich and some nice lean red meats, Steaks abd the like. You'll get you iron back up in no time. Or you could simply take a supplament.

I do; just not as often as I used to.

Blood is the devil.

I wish I could but I just hate needles (I think it's the needles I hate anyway, but now that Lana has said what she said I'm not sure, but I don't really know what you mean. Well what I hate anyway is the fact of having a needle stuck in me, and just the look of needles or the syringe with a needle in it makes me uncomfortable.) Bleurgh it made me feel sick reading all those posts. When I had a chest infection I had to have two blood tests in the space of a week, it was horrible (I know it isn't a lot compared to some people, but it was terrible for me). And the second time the blood was leaking out of my arm when the doctor was drawing it out and it went everywhere 😐 and I felt sooo sick and I nearly fainted and my vision went all blurry, and I'd never fainted before in my life. But I didn't actually faint because the doctor told me to stamp my feet and put my head down and it worked. Well anyway, so yeah I could never give blood because of that experience, and just because I hate needles anyway. It's a shame though because I'm O negative, and my mum says it's not really that common. But it might not be rare, it could just be not as common as the common ones (haha I sound so intelligent don't I?) although I don't have a clue myself.
